Default 4506 features?

I found possibly a good deal on a 4506, but need some input please. It has the metal sides around the combat sights, sorry for the inaccurate terminology, are these a plus or minus? I have never used sights like these and some 4506 have them I noticed, rear sight btw. It also has the smith and Wesson logo/seal on the slide, left side? I noticed that doesn't seem common with all third gens. Gun is 95%, blue s&w case, 3 factory mags and paperwork for 500 once shipped and transferred. Good deal? Do those features make this gun any more/less desirable. Looking at same condition 4566, which one guys?

I like the adjustable sights on the 4506. I have them on both of my 4506-1's. I consider them a plus. I'm able to adjust the sights for different loads. The wings also protect my night sights from being damaged getting in and out of the car all day.

It sounds like you may be describing a very late production 4506-1, what we refer to as a "dash 3". The end of 4506 production guns had laser etched markings vice rollmarks. The S&W logo appeared on the left side of the slide.

They were only marked "mod 4506" on the left side, above the trigger guard. They also had three......or four lines of laser etching above and below the model number. Writting all over those guns, like a Ruger.

Hard to say for sure without seeing the gun. Look at the box if you have it. To the right, on the label will be an "03", under SPECIAL FEATURES.

If it is, congrats! Those bring $650 or more LNIB and are pretty scarce variants. Some of the most accurate 4506's I've ever shot too. IIRC, Kurt Russell used one in the movie "Dark Blue". Hope this helps! Regards 18DAI

Well I've been wanting one, so I just pulled the trigger. It was advertised as 45-06, so it remained hidden on gunbroker is my theory.

WOW! Congrats! You stole that one!

That looks like 2002 to 2004 production due to there only being two lines of info laser etched above the trigger guard rather than three or four. Identical markings to my 2004 4516-3.

Also looks to have been an LE issue due to having three mags and the original box. Glock sock on the grip usually means it was carried too.

Very nice 4506! On the remote chance that you don't like it after shooting it, I know where you could make a quick $50 profit. Regards 18DAI

I agree with 18DAI. The adjustable sight is nice and the guards or ears around the sight are no hardship. You'll get used to the looks of them. That is a nice looking gun and the price seems fair enough. It's a big heavy thing to lug around but on the range, you will like it.

Thanks for the advice and compliments guys. This will be my first s&w auto and have been want one of these 3rd gens, as I have commented on them about a month ago. It seems like they're getting harder to find and the gun shows want 600 for one gun and magazine, so I'm excited to get this one. Hopefully the pictures are accurate and this one is solid
