I'm kind of curious about this little pistol, so what's the story on this thing and is there anything wrong with it I should know about it?

I mean does it have an alloy frame and just a stainless slide or is it all stainless? its kind of hard to tell looking at the thing.

and if its alloy is there another 39 series gun with a double stack mag out there thats all stainless that I could look into?

I own a 469. Never had a 669. 2nd gen guns are just as good as third in my book. The only difference between the 469 and 669 is the finish. Get it and shoot the heck out of it. It will bring you much joy.

669 has alloy frame and stainless slide.
469 has alloy frame and blue steel slide.
I was issued the 469 for a couple of years until we went to 3rd gen S&W. Nothing wrong with the "mini-gun".

The "Mini-Gun" 469 and and later 669 showed up about halfway through the second generation run in the mid-80s'. They probably had the fewest changes going into the third generation guns, the dovetailed front sight and one-piece grips being the main ones.

Aren't the frames different between the 669 and the 6069 on the backstrap where the mainspring goes? I know you can't interchange grips.

Yes, the 6906 doesn't have a back strap in the true sense of the term, the 3rd Gen grip is the back strap like the Walther PPK.
To the OP; I have an old 669, and have run everything from 147gr Ranger T to Federal 115gr. +p+ thru it and it has yet to jam! Accuracy is BETTER than my 5946, and it will feed off of any 5900 series mags out there. My normal carry load at present is the Speer 124gr. Gold Dot.
Smith never made a steel framed "mini gun" so if your looking for the all steel model, your looking at either a 659 or 5906 in stainless or the 559/5905 in blue, both of which are rather rare.
And just as a bit of trivia the Air Force did express some interest in the 469 when it was introduced, and these were Smiths best sellers until the 3913 showed up. Dale

Hmm so I see my eyes dont deceve me then. it does have an alloy frame.

still probably be a hell of an ideal carry piece for that very reason. I just like the little thing because of how bulldog-ish it is and it seems like quite a powerhouse like a detonics combat master or something along the lines of that.

still kicking myself over missing out on that one.
