4506-1
This is my first post in the semi-auto section, I hang out plenty in the revolver threads.
One of the LGS has a 4506-1 in the case and I was wondering about these pistols.
The pistol is in great condition and when I saw it it got me interested so I have some questions.
Are they good pistols? Reliable? Any issues with them?
The price on it is 550.00. Thanks to any and all replies.

Extremely reliable. The only issue I ever had was with my 4506 no dash model with extracting spent casings. Every now and again it wouldn't extract the spent casing, but a new extractor spring fixed all of that (which I installed myself). Night and day difference in tension, and apparently the first edition guns had this problem until the spring was replaced with an updated one. You won't have that problem with the -1.
The only issue you will have is buying enough ammo to satisfy your desire to shoot that bad boy! $550 is a very fair price, does it come with box/papers/magazines? I paid $400 for my 4506 no dash, and $600 for my 4506-1. If the one at your shop has the adjustable sights that's another $50 of value IMO (blue book says something like $33).

Well, for what it's worth, before I retired we had the 4506-1 for duty weapons on my old PD. Although it was a little heavy for my personal taste, it was almost indestructable. When we tested it, we did all kinds of stuff to it. It just wouldn't stop. I wouldn't mind finding one in good shape.

Thank you to the replies.
This particular gun has the Novac fixed sights on it. I'm not sure about the box but it did have one extra magazine with it.

It is a great gun, you won't be disappointed. I've had one for 3 years and it remains one of my favorites.

$550 for the gun with novak's + one mag isn't a bad deal. Does it have factory or hogue grips on it? If it's a PD trade in you might even be able to talk them down another $50, or make it $550 out the door.

It has factory grips on it. It's not a police trade in, it was from an individual.
I think I can get a better deal than the asking price since I do alot of business with the shop.

I am a wheel gun guy too and I bought one a few weeks ago on recommendation of forum members. It is a very solid piece of hardware. Shoots like a tcak driver. Go for it. I think it's the best .45 semi Auto out there. The $550 is a good price for that gun. I have seen them advertised up to $700 and selling on GB at $600. I bought mine for $550 OTD. Included 2 mags and the original case. If you can work the price down a little better yet!
