Hi Pondsideshooter,
My educated WAG would be that you could buy one at "retail" at a LGS for between $550 & $650, or, sell it to your LGS for between $375 to $450. Recent selling prices at one of the online auction sites ran between $435 and $599 for 4006's in similar condistion. The fact that it's LNIB rather than being a police trade-in definitely makes it more valuable while the current rage for everything plastic holds the price down.
Hope this helps!

I can't speak to 3rd Gen values in Ohio, but closer to the center of the US a commercial 4006 in excellent condition would sell for around $400-$425. The 3rd Gen 9mm's and .45's sell faster and for more money (sometimes a lot more money) locally than then .40S&W's do.

In my experience, if the gun is truly like new, anything under $500 is too little to pay and anything over $600 is too much to pay.
Good Luck

i have been watching 4006s on gunbroker for the last year or so and a lnib example fair price is 400.00 a pawn shop or gun shop would probably only give between 300.00 and 350.00 so 400.00 would be a very fair price. Yes they go for 450.00 to 550.00 on gunbroker but that is from an established seller.Dont feel bad for giving her 400.00 its more than fair.

In my recent experience, if you find a 4006 in excellent condition it is snapped up before you can decide if you want to bid or buy now. I settled for one in far less than excellent condition and fixed it up myself. I'm still working on it. If I had seen a lnib for less than 550 I would have been, and still might be all over it.

I bought another 4006 at a local gun show two weeks ago for $450. It's in excellent condition with no wear marks, has night sights, matching box, cleaning kit, paperwork and 4 extra mags. I didn't need another 4006, but this one was so nice I just couldn't resist. IMHO, the package you are describing would definitely be more valuable than the one I just picked up.

That's a great deal, and used mags are running $20 so even a better deal.

I've been following 4006 prices for the past two years. Both of mine were LE trade-ins that surfaced in gun shows in OKC. I paid $400 for each of them. The first one (probably 9-10 years ago!) was just the 4006 and two mags. The second was late last year... box, papers and two mags. I've seen two "LNIB" 4006s sell for $500 to $600, not counting FFL fees, shipping and insurance. IMHO, l'd offer $500 to $550. It might be a little high, but then it would be more than fair to your friend's widow...

Used mags at CDNN for $10.
Typical 4006 price $350-$400.

4006 price
I picked up a 4046 in columbus for 425.00. The gun is 90% duty weapon with 4 mags. The one you want to buy sounds like a 95-98 %. Good luck.

There is a two-tone 4006 in my local shop for $350. If I wasn't a nine guy (and if I was richer) I'd probably snatch it up. Can't afford a .40 right now
