Hi everyone, I signed up because i didn't see anything in a search about these pistols.

I'm into pistols a little over a year and am a fan of Beretta 92fs 9mm. My Buddy and everyone else says a 1911 is a must for pistol owners.

Why is there nothing about 1911 pro in 9mm? Everything seems to make so much sence about them other than if you actually have to defend yourself with it and want a max dropping power.

Any input would be great.

I have the Pro Series 1911 in .9mm and it is the absolute best shooting firearm that I own including my Ed Brown! Get one!

I have the fixed sight version. I bought it for a "cheaper" way to shoot a 1911.

I like the gun, except mine seems to only really like the 147 weight bullets for grouping and factory sight settings. Not much cheaper when buying ammo than 45.

If I was to do it again I would go with the adjustable sight version.

The gun has 300 rounds through it and has functioned flawlessly.

The gun has nice features like the 30 lpi front checkering and such.

I just think it does not get much conversation because some think that a 1911 in 9mm is blasphemy. For some its 45 acp & 38 super or nothing

For the heck of it I tried a search on the intire net for WTS S&W 1911 pro 9mm and nothing popped up other than out of stock from stores. No personal sales on these. What is one worth ?

PS I did buy one new . I ran a couple mags through it and it became a safe queen. It is also the fixed site version. I was thinking about pulling it out but I came to the net instead

I saw a fixed version at a gun show last weekend - the dealer had MSRP pricing on it - Out of curiosity I asked what he needed for it and he said $1250.

I picked up the Pro Series 9mm last weekend. Adjustable sights, real nice gun. I have 300 rnds through it, and its just about flawless.

I purchased a Dan Wesson 1911 Pointman in 9mm with an extra upper in 40 S&W. A real delight to shoot. That was before S&W announced their 1911's.

I would really love to have a Smith & Wesson 1911 9mm. I don't like that their usually more than a .45 and kind of a rare find. Some parts are pretty unique to the 1911, but they are great shooters!

I have a Rock Island 1911 9mm Tactical and I love it. A great shooter indeed. I purchased my "Rock" for under $500 and I have added a few personal touches like a STI trigger, Custom Grips and so on. This is a great full size range pistol and so much more.

I'll keep dreaming of a Smith & Wesson 1911 though

I was interested in this S&W model for quite a while, but couldn't find anybody that had one. So, I bought a Les Baer.

Another option of course, if you want a similar platform in 9mm or .40 S&W, is one of the all time great handguns- the Browning Hi-Power

I have been looking as well. Not being able to find a Pro 1911 9mm I purchased two 1911SC E series in round tail (45acp).
I would like to have the pro in 9mm but the cost of the pistol might make me just continue to shoot my M&Ps in 9mm and my 1911s in 45acp.
If you find any let me know, I have yet to see a pro in person, 9mm anyway.

I was able to get one, fixed sights, back in August, 2010. New, from Shoot Straight during the Gun Show, for US$1,050.00. At the time, the best price I was getting was $1,200.00 from Gander Mountain.



I also have a Beretta! 92FS Type M9A1. Really love that one as well. What an easy gun to shoot.

I just bought one, adjustable rear sight version, and will replace the front sight with fiber… as soon as the gun smith can get it done.

I really don’t understand why 1911 in 9mm is not more popular.

I have SA 1911 Loaded in 9mm… it functions (almost) flawlessly, thousands of rounds for sure. I outfitted it with XS sights for steel shoots. I think I paid 900, than add in new grips, magwell, titanium firing pin, sights put the total cost over 1250.

The reason I bought a second one, a Pro version from S&W is for IDPA, and shoot in minor division. My DK1911 is chambered in 45acp, and the extra weight and adjustable sights, combined with similar grip, feel, draw, will let me back away from using my Sig 226.

A 1911 is a platform, and IMHO dominates completion shooting for a reason. I also shot an M&P Pro 9mm... I like it, but it ain’t a 1911.

Don’t be shy on a 1911 in 9mm… they are hard to find, and the S&W Pro is priced right for what you get.

That would have been a great option... I don't recall seeing it when I bought mine...

I am new to guns... can you elaborate on the front sight replacement? Specific brand to use? Can it be done to mine? What does that run $? (searching for the benefits of this mod now... some good reading )

Being new to guns… and starting with a Performance Center is about as good as it gets… congrats on your purchase!

I don’t want to make recommendations, but I will offer some suggestions. A good gun smith is worth the fee they charge… they have the tools, and the experience. I usually pay between 40-90 dollars for sight work. IMHO, worth every dollar!

Fixed sights are as good… as they have been set into the slide. Usually, the only issue that you might encounter is shooting low, or high. A good plan of action, is to shoot bench rested at 20-25 yards, 300+ rounds to get a good sense that rounds are hitting POA (point of aim) If you sights alignment is good, then POA can be addressed with a higher/lower front sight, to insure POI (point of impact).

I use “Dawson Precision” and “XS Sights” Novak is another option.

If you are thinking about adjustable rear and fiber front, then Novak is a good option (you should call them and fully discuss your needs) The reason, the Slide is not already “notched” for a standard adjustable rear sight. So you would need a “matched” pair (front, rear)
If you are thinking about just a Front sight, Dawson is a good option (you should call them and fully discuss your needs), this is the route I will be taking…

Again, let me be sure you don’t misunderstand, you really need to shoot bench rested to confirm your POA-POI is consistent, and measured. This way, if your high/low you can pick the proper front sight height. My M&P Pro 9mm shoots 2-3 inches low at 15-20 yards... drives me nuts!

One final comment, spend some time looking at sights (Dawson, Novak) but definitely give them a call… these folks love to talk guns and help get you setup right! Have shipped just the “slides” never had an issue… they have always come back perfect.

A 1911 in .45ACP is a must. Along with a .357 Magnum wheelgun, these two are things every American should own.

Dunno today...but tomorrow is range time It comes with 2 Wilson tactical mags, which I fully loaded yesterday, and left that way for break in time

I am also interested in how accurate it is. I have a Model 5906 and while it is a nice gun for the combat range, I don't find it accurate enough for target shooting.

I had a Performance Center Model 952 on order but when I stopped at the Smith & Wesson store in Springfield yesterday they told me they stopped making the 952. I then asked what their most accurate 9mm target pistol was and they told me the 1911 Pro Series.

I was able to hold and dry fire the 1911 and was very impressed with it. Before I buy one, I want to make sure it can put all the bullets in the black.

what kind of ramp does the Pro Series 9mm barrel have? Has anyone put a 38 Super barrel in one?

well I have 1500 38 super cases - love the caliber - but want a sub 2" inch group at 25 yards - for under 1200 - if the 9mm will do it I'd be fine with it

The area beneath the ramp actually indicates which type ramp it is, not the ramp itself. It is a Clark/Para ramp. I don't have one of the 9MM Pros, but have changed other brands, Colts and Kimbers, between 9MM and .38 Super. Recoil springs, extractors and ejectors usually work with both calibers. Going from 9MM to Super sometimes requires an ejector shorter than the 9MM one. This, so that the longer loaded Super rounds can be ejected without hanging up on the front of the ejection port. I use a medium length ejector which works fine with both rounds. I use the proper caliber magazines, but others have reported just using the Super magazines with both calibers... ymmv

The S&W 9mm 1911 pro is a great gun (I have one) ... very high on the quality-for-the-cost equation.

You would find a lot more information on this particular gun on the 1911 Forum (S&W section). I'm mostly a 1911 guy, so that's where most of my posts are, but I also love S&W.

I use my S&W pro mostly as a range gun. However, with good defensive +P ammo, I would have absolutely no qualms about relying on this firearm for self-defense. Mine has been extraordinarily reliable. Yes, I prefer the 45acp chambering for SD, but good 9mm SD ammo will do the job with decent shot placement.

Hey guys. I picked up ones of these bad boys last week. I have only shot 300 rounds thought it. But I'm getting a lot of failure to feed (1 in 40 rounds)not to mention larger groups than normal. It may be the ammo I'm using but I was wanting to see if you guys were have the same problem.

Probably because they are not easy to find - at least one wasn't easy to find for me.

I have one of the newer ones with adjustable sights. If you want to read about them, our member WC145 did a few threads on his gun when he got it a year or two ago. If you know how to search, you should be able to find some info that might be interesting to you in his writings.

My own gun is relatively new and has not given any trouble, as far as function. It hasn't bobbled yet, but I have mostly fired inexpensive factory FMJ-RN ammo. (Magtech, American Eagle, WWB, etc.) I have been testing it for accuracy, and it has followed the results I expected when I checked the fitting of the barrel. In the case of my gun, it could be better.

On the other hand, the gun does shoot one of my handloads well enough to consider it a solid notch above "usuable." The handload uses the Remington 124gr JHP (not the brass-jacketed one) and HS-6 powder. It is the only of ammunition I have had any success with, so far. I intend to try lead, and the heavier jacketed bullets, soon.

I can't say I am pleased with the fitting of the barrel on this pistol. I expected better. I also dislike the goofy S&W practice of fitting blued small parts on stainless guns, but they have done that for years. Makes no sense because these parts need protection from corrosion when the gun is in use, but I am sure they think of it as a cosmetic sales-getter. I would prefer all stainless parts. I can do without the jazziness of the contrasting parts.

On the other hand, there are lot of things to like about the gun. In fact, I like it well enough that I may consider putting a new barrel in it if I cannot get it to shoot better with other ammo. And that is saying a bit.

I bought this one a little over 2 months ago. With factory new or factory reloads the gun runs fine.
At first using my reloads, not so good. The slide would stop just about an 8th of an inch short of going fully into battery. Usually a firm bump on the back of the slide would usually send the slide all the way forward.

I polished the chamber, replaced the factory 12# recoil spring with a 14#, and most important, paid closer attention to my my reloads.

Mixed brass (range pick ups) not trimmed or champhered
Federal 100 primers
RCBS taper crimp set to .376"
OAL 1.09"

This combination has got the gun running fine with my reloads.
