5906 - barrelīs shape
Hi guys, as you know, the 5906's barrel has a kind of "waist" near the muzzle. Do you think this could cause a "weakness" in this area?

Nope. It is integral to the lockup and unlocking from battery.

I know but what about the "thinning" of the barrel?

It's a well documented fact that this becomes a major problem when these barrels get up in the 2.7-2.9 million round count.
Just messin' with you POL
I would bet my house that the riflings in the barrel would wear down long before there were any structural problems related to the narrowed portion of the barrel.

Barrel
I have a 5946 with 13,000 rounds through it ( documented). Replace the springs clean, lube. It will last your lifetime, if you are not an endurance test commando.
If you are an endurance test commando let me know when a 5906/5946 fails.

Never happen...the barrel is not thinned out behind the muzzle, the muzzle is thickened in front of the standard thickness barrel tube...

Considering that the gun has been out for about 30 years and a barrel failing has never been documented, I would have to say that the "case" was never open..

All of the above, and you have to remember that, that particular design was originated on the models 469/669 2nd Gen compacts. And a lot of rounds have been put through these as well. Dale

You can add , 4506/4566/4516-13,5904-3---, etc etc etc, it is not an issue at all.
You would be better off worrying about the hammer spur wearing out.

I've wondered how they made the ring at the end of the barrel. It doesn't look to me as if the barrel is machined. So I figured they are hammer forged.
