Ex Cleveland Ohio PD 5943
Picked up an ex, Cleveland 5943 at a gun show. ($400 bucks) Not a great deal but Ok I think. Anyway talked with the guy a bit and He told me I was the first owner after he got it at auction from the PD. Only a little holster wear on the right side and in general in excellent shape. Until I field stripped it. ( OMG there Must be some trick to holding the slide back and trying to push out the pin from the opposite side! note: do NOT try putting your finger in the ejection slot!). To continue I don;t believe I have ever seen such a filthy firearm I found bits of blue cloth from the uniform in the action and the red stuff from the inside of the holster through the action (Tends to make me believe the guy was telling the truth). the feed ramp was totally encrusted took a brass brush to get it off let alone powder residue on all the inside surfaces. I am honestly not sure this would have fired when needed.

I have used the plastic handle of a nearby screwdriver to push on the pin and start it on its way out. Yes, do not lose your grip and keep arms and legs inside until the ride comes to a complete stop...

I guess what makes me wonder is how ANYONE could treat something like this that their life depended on , seems a bit short sighted if not down right stupid

Here's the technique I was taught to hold the slide to the rear so that the slide stop can be pushed out from behind with your free hand (obviously, in this case I was taking the picture with my free hand). No tools required.

OK!!! that looks doable BTW the finger in the ejection slot REALLY did not work !!! Had to have my wife help me get the slide open to get my finger out. I am sure I am going to hear about that for a LONG time.

I have small hands so I am sure I look a little goofy too. Not so much getting the pin out... but putting it back in when my hands are oily is quite the comedy sometimes.
Congrats on a great gun. It sounds like it found a new owner that will take care of it for a long time. Enjoy and get it dirty yourself. $400 is a very good price!

I'm glad to see that they mark them the way they do in Cleveland because I was going to make a stupid joke and say that 400 bucks for a gun marked COPD would be nothing to cough at. I know....I know.

I'm also from Cleveland (or at least a transplant - here for the last 5 years) and also a 5906 owner.
Mine is a mint 5906 also, fixed sights, square trigger guard like yours.

talking about not cleaning your duty gun.one of our deputies had rust on the top of his G22 slide and on the side I told him man your butt depends on that working. he said he never cleans it but once a year when we qualify.he showed me the next day where he atleast oiled the slide. I have been wanting a 5946 or 5943 to go with my 4046. nice guns guys.

 Same here, Brother. It's good to know I'm not the only one.
I was * this close* to yelling for help when I was able to wriggle free.
Left a purple blood blister for a couple of days too.
