Default How To Mount/Sight In A Pistol Scope?

I took the advice given here and purchased a Leupold 2x for my M41.

Local dealer and friend has mounting rings which I hope to get tomorrow or Thursday.

The 41 has a Weaver rail on it.

So, what's the basic procedure for sighting it in if my intention is to eventually shoot 50 silhouette matches with that combo?

(I think I know how to mount the scope, being careful not to over tighten and make sure everything is equally tightened. Right?)

thanks!

What has worked for me is to mount the scope and basically "eyeball" in in for alignment. This will usually get you on paper at 30 feet or so. After that you start with the target at 30 feet and gradually walk it back while zeroing the sighting at each distance. It's also a good idea to take a notebook with you to record how many clicks of elevation change there is at various "critical" distances. For example I would record the number of clicks between 15, 25, and 50 yards. That way if you have to change your setup for a specific distance you'll know how many clicks it will take.

Now, one bit of advice. Your scope will likely end up offset from the barrel axis by up to 2 inches. Do NOT plan on setting your zero at any distance closer than 30 feet. Because of the offset of the scope from the barrel trying to zero the scope at close range will create a lot of convergence and trying to save ammo by setting close then moving back to full range will have your shots sailing right over your target. Quite simply, take the time and use the ammo necessary to work the sighting back in stages.

Thanks, friend, that's the kind of "basic" advice I need.

I would have never thought of the notebook idea, either.

I've mounted and sighted in a red dot and a scope on a rifle before but never a pistol.
