No luck finding a 1911PD or Gunsite pistol
Spent an hour with my local dealer trying to place an order for EITHER one of these guns. No luck. Can't even find the SKU numbers at any of the wholesalers or in the catalogs. Finally my dealer said "let's go straight to S&W and find out what's going on". He called S&W and explained the situation and they asked him to hold while they checked ALL the wholesalers they sell to. After about 5 minutes they got back on the phone. And here is the situation...
#1 NO S&W wholesaler has either the 1911PD or the Gunsite model in stock.
#2 S&W is NOT manufacturing the gun at the current time, and they have no idea when it will go back into production.
This was straight from S&W. So one of their most popular 1911s is not available anywhere and there is no telling when it will become available.
How wonderful.
Now I am wondering if they are shifting production to the Houlton, Maine facility where they make the E series guns. If they are, no way I will buy a gun from there. I bought a S&W PPK made in Houlton, Maine. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Deputy, did you call Gunsite in AZ? They show available in their shop...
Also, there is a Gunsite 1911 listed on GB. The seller did raise the price about $200.00 a few weeks ago. Guess he/she reliazed it's rare...
Good luck.

I didn't check with Gunsite but I suspect they are out. Plus the price is breathtaking!!!
Gunbroker shows two used guns. Not interested in used.
But thanks for the heads-up.

I've sure been happy with the two Wilson Combat's I bought in 1996.
Of course I was single and they were about $1500 then.
At the time many of my IPSC friends thought I was a fool.
Over time and much use I think they were a good buy. One I used so much I returned it this year to Wilson for a new finish.
Just saying

Why? The OP's problems were because he dropped it which resulted in damage. Looks to me like the gun is still functional...NOT disabled. I had a 1911 SC (stolen in 2010) and it was a fabulous gun in ALL regards.
Don't let this guy's problem deter you in any manner!

Still functonal, but S&W refused to repair it. I don't think the frame of a gun should have pieces crack off after dropping on the ground from a height of 3 feet. That's a bit too fragile for me. This isn't supposed to be a piece of fine china. I'm not prone to "dropsy" when it comes to guns, but one does have to be aware of the Murphy Factor.

Scheels in Billings, MT also had a first-year run 1911PD about a week ago when I was passing through. $800. Had a little barrel hood movement, but overall looked in good shape.
Good luck.

I like my 1911's to be made of carbon steel and of The Govt. model pattern.
Steel lasts longer and 5" guns run better and need less maintenance.
If I want lighter or smaller I have Tupperware.

S&W did offer to replace the frame but not on their dime....nor would I as there was NOT a defect in the gun. It was dropped....sort of like wanting Ford to warranty a motor that was run out of oil.
I would not and did not hesitate to own another Sc frame again.
Randy
PS. If you want I would be happy to check the 1911 PD mentioned above in the Scheels store. The one at Cabela's is a SW1911 with a steel frame.

No thanks. And I can hardly see a car run out of oil as a fair comparison to a dropped gun. Guns are not or should not be considered as "delicate items". The Murphy Factor is VERY present with guns and self defense scenarios. Nowhere do I see any warnings from S&W that dropping the gun on a hard surface could cause chunks of the frame to break off. I can drop my Colt Combat Commander on concrete all day long and the worst I will get from it is scratches on the finish. If possible frame damage is the downside to having a lightweight gun, then I'll pass on it.

I tried sending you a PM. I think I saw a Gunsite at a local shop the other day but I wasn't looking at or for it. PM me if you would like the name of the shop. It is in MI.
