Hello all, new to the forums here.

I've got an 80's Model 41 (it was my dad's and I remember shooting it when I was a kid 20 some years ago). It's since become mine and I've field stripped it multiple times for routine cleaning and never had a problem putting it back together. Today however, something odd happened.

When trying to put the recoil spring + slide back onto the frame, the slide is caught in rearward position, but it won't release into neutral. Additionally, the slide release feels "stuck."

The only mods to the gun is a set of weights attached to the barrel. Any suggestions?

The trigger guard has to be down when you remove or install the slide. Did you check that?

I had that happen once. I didn't have the slide release properly seated...it looked right, but it wasn't. It was binding the slide.
