Default 3954

Hello all,
I'm new to the forum and new to the 3954.
I did some research on here but don't see many posts about them.
I have a few questions and look forward to all answers.

1) Is there after market grips for this gun?
2) Will I ever get use to the DAO? Or can there be some trigger work done?
3) I'm not seeing a lot of these around so what should I have paid for it? It has holster wear, but is solid and shoots great! Was 400.00 to much?
Thanks,

First off, $400 was a good price since the gun is pretty rare. Grips from Hogue are available for this gun since it shares the same grip as a few other S&W single stack nines. I have found the best way to improve the double action only S&W 3rd gens is to simply replace the hammer spring with a 16lb spring and replace the trigger rebound spring with a 2.5 lb spring. This will reduce the trigger pull by about 3 lbs. which will put it at about a 8lb to 8.5lb trigger pull weight. The current trigger pull on your gun should be about 11 lbs. from the factory. Wolff springs is who to buy them from.
Messing with the sear and hammer and drawbar on this model will not provide a significant improvement in trigger feel since it is already excellent from the factory.

Hope this helps.

First off let me say Thanks to you both!
I will try and find the springs and grips and work on making this my ccw. I have a cw9 that I use now but there is something about the 3rd gens that I have always liked. I mean when you pick it up you know you have a gun in your hands if you know what I mean..
@ Blue, Is this gun really that rare? should I put it away or use it? I was looking at the stainless version but this is what I found..

Unusual, but not rare nor collectable. "Put Away" guns, especially in very common pistols must be in the 100% NIB category to ever gain any chance of appreciation in your lifetime.

It is a 3913 but in DAO, so in terms of desirability and retail value, it falls into the trap that any retired "cop carry" piece does- most people want their firearms to be DA/SA, mostly avoiding the DAO. This is usually evidenced by comparing the retail of the selling prices.

Your selection of aftermarket grips is from what I have encountered- all but non existent as is the case with most S&W wrap-arounds. Hogue Wood Stocks for 3913 Really cool stuff can be done to them with a steady hand and a soldering gun tip!

I look for the common used S&W semi autos to be in the $325 to $425 price range. At this point, the original box is nothing more than an amusement, not a big bargaining factor... again- unless it's NIB (and you perceive a need for that and intend to not shoot it).

It is a great CCW gun.

Hogue grips for the 3913/14 should fit since they are essentially the same gun. I think someone has a set for sale in the classifieds. If not, they aren't difficult to find on the Internet. I recently bought a set for my 3913.

I'd like to add one of these to my collection as my daughter likes the size and feel of the 3913/14, but her being a lefty complicates purchase and reduces selection to non LS/NL versions. I think the DAO version might suit her and if not, I'd just have to survive having another 3rd gen variation in my armory.

Thanks Gary,
I will look into them and get a set soon.

Also if you have a 3913/14 just laying around i might be able to help you with adding one of these to your collection!
