A 3906 showed up at my LGS
I breezed into one of my LGS's to see if a set of grips I ordered had arrived. As I passed by the used gun case I spotted a stainless 3rd gen S&W lying there amongst all of the black plastic guns. I had to look.
When I saw it was a 3906, I know my heart stopped for a second, or it felt like it did. I didn't think I'd ever see one in real life, but I have admired them here on the forum. When I flipped the tag over, I saw it had 2 mags, and was priced at $369! What?
I looked again, yep, it's a 3906 alright. "What's the best price on this one?" I asked. After a few minutes with the manager, he came back and said $360 OTD.
I had just bought another rifle and put a second one on layaway within the past week, but I couldn't leave without claiming this one too. I'm going to have to root through my safe and see what's gathering dust, so I can get this one home to the range.
Anybody know if KSD ever started making grips for this one? Seems like I recall reading about it a while back. Just don't remember if it was here or somewhere else. I've got some time to look around before I get to bring it home anyway.

3906/3904 KSD grips
As much as I dislike the aesthetics of the adjustable sights, I would have bought it anyway at that price. It may have pre-recall grips - you should have S&W replace them whether you get the KSD grips or not.

Definitely the kind of deal that will make heads spin around here, absolutely a "MUST BUY!"
I too don't care for the adjustable sight -- but that 3906 will accept any 9mm full size 3rd Gen slide/upper on it. So you could make it fixed sights if you were inclined.

I'm not crazy about those sights either, but I had them on a 1006 and got used to the look. The fellow at the counter said it just came in, and was from a "security company". But there's no markings on it, and the grips don't look beat up at all. Very little wear on the barrel/slide as well.
Which other models will interchange slides? Does it have to be another single stack? Thanks everyone!
Had to correct my "smart phone's version of 1006" (1ppy) ??? WTH????

It does NOT have to be a single stack. I am not 100% certain (but mostly sure! ) that any 3rd Gen traditional DA/SA 9mm top end will fit and run on a 3906 lower. Most plentiful by far simply has to be a 5906.

Love the gun, hate those rear sight wings. Blessings on your great find.

About five years ago, I ran across nice 3906 with Novak style rear sight in a LGS for $425. I had just previously dropped some coin on another pistol. I left it there. It took me a couple of days to rationalize, but when I went back it was gone. I kicked myself for a couple of years until I ran across a 3904 an earlier fix sight 3904 online and grabbed it at a descent price. Lesson learned: He who hesitates comes in late. You did especially well on your adjustable sight version. Congrats.

Went back and checked the grips, they have been dimpled.

I wish I could find another 3906 for that price. I would be able to save my other one that is probably close to 90%.

$360 for a 3906 with adjustable sight and in excellent condition is one heck of a good deal these days!
