Passed on a 3914, what years of Mfg.
Any body know the years of mfg. of the 3914's . Had to pass on a 3914 today. Man said he bought it new 3 years ago, and only shot 4 boxes. Didn't ring true. I would have thought it a lot older. Also the slide was extremely loose on the frame. the mag well had a thousand scratches in it. The bottom rails of the slide, when locked open, appeared to be covered in anti-Sieze, or alum slide material. Hate to think how loose it would be if you cleaned the crud out.
Told the guy I would have to pass .. And I think the guy got pissed that I was wasting HIS time.
The 4 boxes of ammo must have been the size of a volkswagen.
Buyer beware.

According to the SCSW produced from 1990-96. That was for the regular version, which was the most popular. The 3914 Lady Smith and 3914NL were only made for a couple of years.
From the sound of it, the guy thought he was dealing with an amateur. My 3914NL is a very nice gun. I don't carry it much because I like my CS9 a bit more. Not to mention my 3913.
Good guns, if you find a nice one, buy it.

Thanks Gary.
I didn't think it was recent. 25 years of use seems more in line.
to bad nobody thought to grease the slide rails.

Too bad indeed. That's one of the few areas that the manual says needs to be lubricated. They really don't need much maintenance at all to keep them running.

You don't see too many S&W semi-autos with sloppy slide to frame fit - I concur, it must have LOTS of wear. Unfortunate to hear of such a wonderful pistol having been abused.....makes me sad.
Even my old, beat up, imported, police trade-in 6904 has a very nice, tight slide to frame fit. Sand must have used as the lubricant on that gun.

I've seen a few sloppy S&Ws around here - usually a 6906 or 3913 or 3914 that someone must have shot a good amount.

I had a sloppy 6906?? or 9 and a tight 3913tsw and the 3913 is by far the superior shooter, there is a different class of third gens when you get into the fitments of the tacticals and performance center models. If you think a normal 3rd gen is sweet then shot some of them and you will be in ONE with the 3rd gen Smith and Wesson.
