Gonna have to vote for the 3913; I own one, and I can't even get to SEE a Shield, much less buy one.

I'm going to have to go with the 3913 although my carry preferance is the 3953. It's a little flatter with a consistant trigger.

Have both the 3954 and the Shield. Both are great guns and I really don't see one as being superior to the other. The Shield is a little slimmer and lighter, the 3913 is a little softer shooting. If anything you could have called this thread "3913 / Shield vs every other slim 9mm ever made". I have pretty much owned them all and the absolute best of the breed are the 39XX and the Shield.

Default #913 VS M&P

I have a 908 same as a 3914, but a couple plastic parts, and I would love to get a 3913 LS or NL. Just can't warm up to the look of plastic guns, they are probably great guns just like the looks of the old ones.

MLK18, how many rounds have you put through your M+P shield?... Is it a 9 or a 40?....Any problems? I have a 9mm on order, if I live long enough to get it in today's madness!

My 2 cents...

They are both very popular but they are not the same.

Some cannot master the TDA because of the two different trigger presses.

If you like traditional type firearms....and willing to put the effort to master the TDA, the 3913 is for you.

With that said.......me want a Shield9 and have been on the wait list since July 2012 at Buds

About the same as the Porsche Carrera 4 vs the Volkswagen Beatle.

Both designed by Ferdinand Porsche. One is a true dream and pleasure to own, the other is a utility car.

Both do the same job. One is just so much nicer to own and use....

You might want to give them a call or an email to make sure you're still on the list. They got in a few last month & i picked up a 40. I wasn't on the list either. I just happened to be on this Forum & somebody posted that Bud's had got in some Shields.

I know Bud's Police isn't emailing when they get something in... I picked up a Shield and two AR's by luck. They don't email on the hot stuff....

I have about 2,500 rounds through my Shield 9mm so far. No malfunctions, no parts breakages, no issues of any kind. I installed Warren Tactical sights on it and most of an Apex DCAEK. I love this gun.

I like TDA hammer fired guns so make mine a 3913. I have to say that the Shield is a good looking gun. It is interesting that S&W is marketing the Shield in the M&P line. I don't think it was considered M&P when they first introduced it unless I missed something. It probably doesn't matter much what they call it.

I'm not convinced that most people really want striker fired guns but many of them settle for whatever new products are marketed by the major firearms companies.

I am busy these days at work but I call Buds about once a week.

They never have them in stock when I call.

I will continue to hold my breath.

I bought a used MP9c but have not had the time to shoot it!

For my needs a CCW should be as sleek and slim as possible.
Sold the 3913 because of the the double sided decocker. Should have gotten a DAO one.
Only handled a Shield briefly, but that may have been the tool for the CC job.
Guess I'll never know as they're unobtanium anyhow.

I just don't want a striker-fired semi-auto. Shield or whatever.

Over the years, I've owned a number of 3913's. I primarily carried them for off-duty, but back before I owned any polymer guns, I often used one for plainclothes duty use. They are outstanding pistols. Having said that, I now own a Shield in 9mm. This is a great little gun. It's very accurate and reliable. In addition, it can be concealed anywhere.

They are both excellent, although the proper comparison is 3953 or 3954 versus Shield.

You cannot go wrong with either, but the 39 Series is out of production. Thus, if you want a new pistol, or one that will be part of a system when you get the Compact or Full-Size M&P, then get the Shield.

Personally, I think the 3953 was about as good as it gets, but I like the Shield. Both are hard to find. Magazines for both are hard to find.

The 3rd Gen 3953 and 3954 have taken on a classic appearance and an almost cult status.

Good luck!

or for smaller than a 3953

as flat as I could get it.

now if I could just get rid of plastic button mag release....I would like it better.

I have been playing with plastic alot these days.
There is no sentimental attachment....I just shoot them and handle them roughly. Believe it or not, I have not shot my 9c. I ordered a RAM....as I cannot feel trigger reset. I prefer the Glock trigger as I have been behind one since 1993.

Another vote for the 3913, although I think the comparison is apples to oranges.

One model is metal framed, hammer fired, ultra reliable, accurate, has a great trigger, white dot sights that don't fall out, goes back into battery on its own and looks good doing all that.

The other is the "shield". Regards 18DAI

Neither could be described as being the product of hand-craftsmanship, and the Shield is really not modern in any sense I can think of since striker-fired handguns are nothing new, and polymer frames have been around for at least three decades. Somewhere I remember reading that S&W made a plastic-frame Model 39 or two just to see what they thought of it, and that was probably another decade or two before Glocks became a sensation.

Anyway, if my life was on the line, I wouldn't want either one, but if I had to grab one or the other, it would be the 3913.
