M 41 magazine compatibility...
I have purchased a Model 41 with DOB around 1979 but have not received it yet - waiting for funds to settle etc. In the meantime, I would like to purchase a couple extra magazines but am unsure about compatibility.
So will any 41 magazine from any date fit any model 41 new or old?
Thanks for any info.

Yes
The rub is in the 622 & 422 type pistols.
They need a cut on the FRONT of the mag.
All 41's work with side cuts.
So some work with 41 and 422/622 and some only
with 41s.
BTW, you will love the pistol--hope you can control
the sickness.

My M 41 dates to 79-80 and I've bought new 12 rd. mags as recently as last month. No problems what so ever. AU-Man is right, you're going to love that gun.

I have 4 41's from the late 50's to the early 80's and can swap magazines between than at will.

Thanks guys - I'm sure I will really like the 41. Another question - what's the deal with 12 vs. 10 mags - the 12's have the orange follower and the 10's don't? I see SW sells new ones for less than $30 but those selling on GB are asking $50 - $80 - I don't get it - what's the difference?

The 10 rd mags had a metal follower and the 12's have the orange plastic follower. Midway has the 10's available but you might have to wait a while for the 12's to be back in stock. Prices are around 25 bucks.

My 41 (which I bought new in the late 70s) will not function with newer magazines. I've tried twice. Maybe it's something wrong with my 41, but the firing pin will not drop with a newer, fully seated mag in place.

Older 10 round mags have the metal follower but the newer 10 round mag followers are plastic. The metal follower mags command a preminum since collectors and some shooters prefer them.

It sounds like the newer mags are not engaging the magazine disconnect. Compare the little nub on the right side of the magazine body. That's what lifts the magazine disconnect. You can also try inserting the mags with the grips off and watching the magazine disconnect move up (or not) on the right hand side.
