S&W 1006 at Gander!! Great score!
Well to start with I always trash talk Gander M because of their exorbitant prices on both new & used guns and they won't dicker (store policy). I vowed I would never buy from them. (Guns) So I stopped after work to see if they had any ammo. They did not. I looked in their very full used gun case and spied a 10mm ...1006. My eyes couldn't believe it. The price tag was $649. The price on a beat up nickel 39-2 was $799 So I asked to see it. An early example..TFAxxx from 1990-1991. Any way when I turned the tag over it said box with 2 mags. So now I am really excited and asked the clerk to fetch the box. He came back with the correct box, original vapor paper, manual and it had 3 mags with yellow followers not 2. Oh and a cleaning kit. So today I bought my 1st gun from Gander..never say never!
I sold one here recently because I wanted the entire 1006 package with box papers etc. I never thought I would find it there.
Here are a couple of pics..

Dang, that's a nice find!
I've bought a bunch of guns from GM both new and used. In our area I find them to be reasonably priced on some not so much on others. I have negotiated on used pieces. Their clerks run the gambit from very knowledgeable and pleasant to total buffoons but, that's true anywhere. They call me when interesting pieces come in as well as what ammo they are getting.
They get beat up on this forum quite often but in general, I'm a satisfied customer.

Congratulations. I'm not a 10mm guy, so I don't know if that price is good or not. Based on what I see used 3rd generation 9mms going for around here, I'll work on the assumption that it IS a good price.
It's a beauty and I hope it brings you much joy.

Kozmic..it would appear the GM is different in different locations. It's usually the last place I would look for a gun. Their no haggle policy drives me nuts since they price their guns so high. WE have about 10 gun shops with a 20 mile radius plus pawn shops. All of them deal and haggle. I guess GM is either franchised owned and the local store or the district sets the policies. Because it is way different than you describe here.
But I got 1 smoking deal at least It's my choice to buy or walk away. Today I bought.

Gary that is a very good price for a 10mm pistol. Especially with all the goodies. The 10mm bring a little more than many 3rd gens because they made so few and they have a cult following...does that mean I am in one? Some of the rarer ones like the 1046 or an FBI certified 1076 will bring well over a grand.

You scored big on that deal! That may be my next grail gun. Either the 1006 or maybe the 1066, since I tend to gravitate towards compacts.

I've followed some of the 10xx threads here because I like 3rd generations guns in general. I know that the 10mm and the guns were developed for the FBI, but that they had problems of some sort and only used them for a short while. I'm not even sure that the entire FBI adopted them or if they just did a pilot project. I'd guess the latter since there are something like 15,000 FBI agents and if they issued them out to all of them, that would be a lot of guns on the surplus market.
It also seems like there were some off beat variations, like the 1076. Frame mounted decocker and no magazine safety. I don't have my 3rd generation chart handy, but my guess is that the 1046 was a DAO stainless version. Actually, the xx46 was also available as a 40 and I think a 59, I think.
Anyway, nice pick up at a great price, enjoy.

They are a great pistol. I actually got one from my local Cabelas (I said I wouldn't buy a firearm from them due to high prices also). Yours is a lot cleaner though. Congrats!

Folks are trading in there 'old' guns all the time at Cabelas. That's where I found my 940 and for a price that I couldn't get my wallet out fast enough. Mbliss are you cornering the market on 3rd gens?

Very nice find on the 1006 and the box and paper along with the extra mags make it just that much sweeter.

Nice score. That package would probably fetch close to 750 or more.

WOW... what a great gun at a even greater price... congrats.
Has anyone noticed that 1006's seem to be coming out of the woodwork lately? Just in the last few weeks, a number of folks (inculding myself) have scored a 1006....

You will enjoy that gun. Here is my S&W 1006, purchased a little over two years ago for $238.00 and some change plus tax. I got some fantastic buys that spring.

Somebody probably traded this obsolete and tactically irrelevant pistol in towards a modern striker fired polywonder. Its a surprise that Gander even took it in trade, and the previous owner should have just taken it to a gun buy back for a $50 Famous Footware gift card...
All joking aside- GREAT BUY!

What a great price, that's awesome and you did a little better than me price, and/or most of us. I would buy another if I found it at that price. Mine below is around similar time frame, TEVXXXX, came with original box, 4 mags and the extra hogues.
