Default S&W 4004

I'm finally getting around to posting these pictures of my latest acquisition. It was for sale locally at a good price so I bought it, no box and one mag. I have plenty of mags though. Blued version of the 4003. Traditional double action, which is my favorite 3rd gen. Full size, alloy frame with a carbon steel slide. Dirty inside, but I suspect it will clean up well and also suspect it will shoot well . The slide has a little finish wear but surprisingly the alloy frame finish is very clean.

Anyways, I fast forward and start doing a google search and then search this forum and only find a half dozen or so posts on it. I don't get the feeling there are many of the 4004's floating around, not much information to be had online. I'll post a range report and target in the next month or so.

Thats a very nice and quite scarce pistol you got there. I've never seen one in person and know that they were only made for a couple of years in the early 90's. Very very nice!

I usually go for SS models, & in fact all my 3rd Gens are stainless. But I've got to admit, that's a good looking gun!

Great find and nice gun. If I found one in that shape I would have jumped on it also. You don't see that many 4004 around, well played.

Just a quick follow up. I took it out to the range yesterday along with the 4006. It shoots equally accurate to the 4006, and I was shooting reloads. Only difference in feel was the weight. Recoil was not really noticeably more than the 4006. In fact, I only seem to enjoy shooting 40 in my 3rd gens. I was shooting at 10 and 15 yards with groups of about 2-inches and I'm first to admit I'm not the most accurate and sure it would better in the right hands.
