I have couple of friends that have them as collectables. They are too afraid of breaking a part on them and not having a replacement available.

Never owned one, but have shot a couple.
They are works of art inside and out, a bit temperamental with ammo, both in OAL and power. It has to be full power stuff to get that action unlocked!! And once the bolt is home it takes a very firm tug to get it open!
Accuracy is amazing with good ammo, muzzle flash will resemble 16inch guns at night! And the blast will drown out just about everything else.
Last one I saw came complete with its box, several old gun magazine articles, two mags, dies, brass, and factory loaded Norma ammo...and sold for $2,000!
Almost forgot, recoil....not that bad! Dale

I have a Pasadena .44AMP with an additional El Monte .357 barrel. I'll take some photos of it for you.

Oh yeah?
I bet yours won't break if you shoot it so there....
(Just kidding by the way. Mine has never been fired because parts are so scarce).

I used to have a magnaported one in .44. The magnaporting was about worthless. It would break something about every other time I went to the range. Parts were hard to get. After the last time it broke, and was gouged big time for a replacement extractor, I sold it. Good riddance!

Owned a High Standard, 6 1/2 inch 44. Back in th 70's. Had to make brass, used some match 308.
Brass had a very short life, only a couple or three firings.
A milk jug was an easy target at a 100 yards.
Did not own a chronograph then. So velocities are unknown as well as loads.
Seems, if I remember correctly that WW296 was the preferred powder.
Quite a pistol, and operating the action to load it was a handful.
I traded a new in the box 29-2, 6 1/2 inch nickel, and a new in the box Python, 4 inch nickel.
Later sold the Automag for $2,900.00. Quite a lot of money in "78".
I think I had paid $500.00 for the 29-2. And the pricey sum of $339.00 for the Python.

I owned an AMT version back in the late 70s/early 80s. It was a thing of beauty, a mechanical work of art. I shot only Norma factory ammo. Function was fine. For all that, I sold it for a profit and never looked back. It's one of the few pistols I ever sold that I don't miss. Sort of like that S&W Escort I had. The opposite end of the power spectrum from the .44 AM, but was glad to get rid of that one also for a modest profit.
