Roper, Sanderson, Kearsage? Model 41 target grips
Here's a neat set of grips I'd like to get some opinions on please. I think they're for an S&W Model 41 semi-auto. Here's what I can tell right off the bat. They are about 1950s or early 60s vintage, just judging by the mustiness of the wood. The checkering is excellent quality. Now here are some quick observations. The checkering going up the thumb rest looks Roper-esque, while the stippling at the front top finger groove of the right-side panel looks Kearsage-esque. I know Walt Roper died (in 1954) before the Model 41 was released in '57, but did his son or someone else continue to make grips in his pattern after he died? The checkering quality looks Roper-esque in the high-quality, organic look, and LPI. etc. Did Kearsage offer regular, checkered stocks that could explain the stippled area? Maybe someone recognizes the scrollwork on the left panel? Really beautiful and mysterious grips, I think!

Your grips are nice but do not have the quality of Roper or Sanderson in regards to the checkering and borders. Pictures of the inside may give more clues

I agree with VM. The quality of the checkering is poor in comparison to Ropers. The design appears to be more closely related to Sandersons, but that's about as far as it goes. Obviously done by someone aspiring to heights that he has not achieved,at least at this point. JMO,and worth exactly what you paid for it.
