Default 915 not police trade in

My LGS has a 915 with orgnial factory box and all factory papers, gun comes with 2 -10 round mags. the gun is as close to new as one can get, he has 450 on it and wont budge on the price , what do you guys think ? I have never seen one in this condition , its one of those guns you know is over priced but chances are I will never find another one like it.

FYI: 915's that I have I paid $395 in '95 and came with a 15 round mag. the mags are still available. They are very reliable basic semis.

My rule of thumb for "over-priced firearms" is.....
1) figure the price I'd like to pay, subtract it from the "no budge" price

Oooops, sorry about that message....
Should read.... My rule of thumb for "over-priced firearms" is to first subtract the price I'd like to pay from the "no-budge" price; then figure the number of years I'll enjoy the gun; and divide that into the difference. I can usually come up with a number that is low enough to rationalize just about any purchase!

Correct me if wrong but....... the 10 round mags belong with a 910 , not a 915. So these would not be the original mags for this pistol.

Old stock sold/shipped after 94???????

Remember ........the 915 was 1992-94 and the 1994 Assaulted Weapons Ban.......killed it...... replaced by the 910

also S&W would have shipped a 915 in the vault with 10 rd. mags...... they would not have just kept it because of the 15 round mags. in the box ...... S&W wastes nothing!!!!

I was given a 915 in the early '90s with four 15-rd magazines. I never did like the grip, finding it unyielding and slippery. If there was a rubber grip available for it, I'd recommend getting one. I remember putting a Hogue Handall(?) on it but but don't remember if it helped.
Function and accuracy were above reproach.

You stand corrected on the factory lable on the factory case it states 3= 10 round mags.

It would be nice if it had 15 round magazines, but if you like the gun the price doesn't seem that bad for one in like new condition. I would probably make one more attempt to buy it for a little less, like their asking price otd including tax. If they don't take that, I would probably still buy it.

Let me add my $ .02 here, stumpie. Five years ago I paid $375, $395, or $425 for my 99%+ Model 915 with one magazine, no box. Honestly, I can't remember exactly what I paid for it . . . underpriced, priced right, or overpriced. However, I sure remember the great time at the range I had right before I took this photo . . . which, by the way, I love posting on this forum. I think you get my point.

I am looking at one myself. A little more used, a little more money. I still want it. I look at it this way. If you really want it, and you pay more than you think it is worth, say, $50, $75, or $100 even, just spend that much less on the 9mm ammunition for it over all the years you will own it. Then you will come out even.

In early August my LGS had a 915 and it appeared to be unfired, 99% with the original perfect box, all papers, etc. Unsure of how many mags or their capacity. He wanted 475 plus tax. I passed as I was unsure of the price. Went back the following Monday and it was long gone. When will I see another 92-94 Model new in the box? Don't know. The best deal is sometimes the one you have right now. What will it be worth in a few more years? More than 475 plus tax I am sure. I wish I had bought it. Buy this one, shoot it and enjoy it.

I think the price is a little high.

Not unreasonably high if YOU like the gun.

Figure it this way: How much does a new Glock cost?

Answer: not much more.

For $50 more would you rather have a new Glock?

Your turn to answer.

I have three 915's, each obviously "carried a lot, and shot very little."

Only a couple years ago, I got both of these for what you will pay for the cleaner one.

Not silly at all.

Had they kept making them, they wouldn't be as interesting!

Besides, the "modern" service pistol has definite practical, and price points to commend it over the older designs.

Okay, Stumpie. In case I was too obtuse in my previous post in this thread, here we go. Black alloy framed 3rd Gens in like new condition are not common. The black alloy frames show every single little scratch or mark. The 915 is one of, if not the most underrated 3rd Gen out there. So, as for this like new example in the box with 2 mags. Buy it!
