A little while ago there was a thread discussing (and some were questioning) the inherent accuracy of the 4516-2. (
Help! Is it Me or is it the Gun? Md 4516-2)
I have a 4516-2, but had not shot it in over 5 years nor had I ever photographed targets from previous range sessions. The targets I've shot in the past with both my 4516-1 and -2 aren't as pretty as those I shoot with some of my other 3rd Gens, so I tend not to photograph them.
I personally believe the short grip and large caliber of the 4516 series pistols make them a little more difficult to shoot consistantly than other 3rd Gens. And, I like posting
pretty pictures.
In any event, given the discussion in the above referenced thread, I posted that I would take my 4516-2 out for a test drive and post the results. After shooting around 70 rounds, I don't find any
inherent inaccuracy in the pistol. I do note, however, that I could use some improvement and practice with the Compact Big Boy. You can see the group starts to form up, but the slightest drop in concentration or grip and off goes a round or two . . . or more
. See the photo below.
I faired better with the 1006, although I've been meaning to move the rear sight just a hair to the right (and I mean just a hair, too). Anyway, that was my day at the range. Ah, a Saturday morning at the local indoor range shooting 3rd Gens . . . lovely.
