Default 422 Magazine issues

I acquired a fixed sight 422 last year and 2 of the 3 mags it came with aren't working. All 3 are S&W marked so I am sure they are not aftermarket. They seat okay in the pistol but won't fire. It is like they aren't actuating the magazine safety. I thought it was the gun and thoroughly cleaned it but it didn't solve the problem and I looked at all the parts for wear and didn't see any issues. I then noticed that the one magazine that always works has an orange follower and the 2 problem ones have a black follower. I noticed my older 422's original magazine had an orange collier as well. Reading online, S&W sells magazines that are marked for the 41, 422, and 622 but really only work on the 41 without modification. Does anyone know how to modify the magazines to properly work in my 422s?
