Default 6906 and 3913 Same Recoil Spring and Guide Rod?

Just wondering. I have a 6906 and saw a 3913 at a shop. Recoil spring feels very weak. I've owned several 3913's and the one in the shop takes almost no effort to rack the slide. Also the guide rod sticks out a bit out of the front of the slide. You can press it in but it pops back out after you let go. Gun is in nice shape though.

Yes, they are the same. The guide rod part # is 101810000, The recoil spring part # is 100950000. The guide rod shows to be discontinued & the spring is probably available from Wolff.

Thanks. You think the easy racking of the slide is a weak recoil spring? And what do you make of the guiderod not being flush with the front of the slide?

If guide rod is sticking out about 1/4"or so, sounds like it was reassembled incorrectly. A quick field strip and reassembly should fix that and slide should feel normal again too. Or you could ask for a discount on a "defective" gun.

Like this? Normal.

Quarter inch? Like the gun won't work when gently manipulated by hand (empty)? As was just mentioned, probably assembled incorrectly. Sometimes a pinch & twist can set things right, and sometimes it's annoying to get it apart and redo it the right way.

No idea what "easy racking" might mean to everyone else. The first thing I'd do with a used 3913 (or whatever 3rd gen) is replace the recoil & mag springs, anyway. Might have to replace the guide rod, too, if someone replaced it with an aftermarket unit, or it was damaged, worn out, etc.

If the head/collar of the staked guide rod assembly can be turned in the rod body ... holding the rod in one hand and using thumb/fingers of the other hand to gently twist the head/collar ... or, the front end of the rod is peened & mushroomed (not common, but it can happen with an aluminum rod if not made right) ... time for a new guide rod.)

I'll look again tomorrow, but the guide rod is stainless and looks factory. The racking of the slide is definitely easier than on any of the other 3913's I have owned. I disassembled the gun and put it back together. I've onwed over a dozen 3rd gen's and feel pretty confident I know how to put them back together. Gun was FILTHY. I mean disturbingly so. Like it never ever got cleaned.

They're asking $379 for it, and it comes with FOUR factory mags. Aftermarket box, though.

I think in another thread I stated that the factory recoil spring for the compact 9 mm guns was 14 pounds. I was wrong, it's actually 15 pounds. Wolff has a number of different spring rates for their recoil springs, and they list 15 pounds as the factory spring.

14 pounds is the factory weight for the full size 9mm guns.

I apologize for any confusion.

Something to perhaps bear in mind, told me by the good folks at Wolff some time ago, is that they use equipment which may measure spring tension differently than some gun companies or other spring vendors. In other words, I was told that simple "spring weight numbers" might differ, depending who was doing the measuring, what equipment they were using and even what type of spring was being measured.

You think the spring in the gun now is one of those reduced power springs wolff sells? Maybe make it easier to rack the slide for a woman shooter? My wife easily racks the 3913 but has trouble with the 6906.

The factory recoil spring for the 3913/908/69XX guns has been painted green for a number of years.
