I have the opportunity to purchase a 356TSW along with many rounds of NIB Federal. I know what the 356 is etc. Hard to assign valuation and was looking for a more "expert guess" from our forum's members.

2 original mags. Shot 150 rds prox. Super Nice Condition with no marks. Without Box-Papers, etc. A fine example for any collection.

Anybody's guess for valuation of the pistol and rounds?

last one on GB went for 1400 with some ammo (not in the best shape either).

It reminds me of the .357 SIG round, I just hope that does not go the way of this one.

Dave, you need to let us know if what you are looking at is the 3566 TSW Compact (3 1/2" barrel, fixed sights) or the 3566 TSW Limited (5" barrel , adjustable sights). Or (and this is very unlikely, but still......if it is the "SD 356 TSW" that was a limited run for Lew Horton with very few examples produced.) We can provide you some pretty good valuation information if you clarify this for us. Thanks.

OK, these are pretty rare, and they are beauties.

There has been one for sale NIB on one of the national sites for quite some time for $2,200. For a collector-grade gun in this series, that price might seem high but I don't think it's out of the ballpark, as these pistols were only produced for one year. While I can't remember production numbers on these that I have seen, I think they were less than 300 and so these are valuable pistols.

GunBroker sales info only goes back for a few months, and there have been no sales during that period, but if I remember correctly from previously researching these, there were a couple of sales in the $1,500-$2,000 plus range there. Those would have been with box, papers, all the bells and whistles for collectors. Wish I could be more specific, but FWIW.

There was a sale of a new, unfired SD 356 TSW here on the Forum in early 2013 for $1,200. I think the same pistol today would be more, simply because prices seem to have risen since then on PC semi-autos, especially the rarer ones.

The ammo is nice to obtain. Federal 147 gr. Gold Medal Match is the FMJ standard, and you can usually buy it for around $1 per round (sometimes a bit less, but I haven't seen it for less than .80 per) and sometimes it's offered in the $1.50 range but that's too high, I think. Also available in JHP from Federal as an SD round, and usually that's the priciest at $1.50 to $2.00 per.

I'd love to own one, but I'm not a collector and since I have the 3566 Compact, that's my .356TSW pistol. Just my humble opinion, but based on sales of relatively rare PC semi-autos recently -- without box and papers but in excellent condition -- I would be a buyer in up to $1,200 range.

I bought mine from Lew Horton back in the day and it became my third competition gun. Ran so good I made a 1911 in 356 when Bill thought we only needed 10 rd mags. See photo with 356 and 4506-1.

Hey, I checked the SCSW and found that the SD 356 TSW models from 1994 either sold for $1,200 or were valued NIB at $1,200 according to which way you interpret the catalog's listing.

I also saw that my 3566 Compact was produced in a quantity of only 200 pieces, in 1993! I'm liking it more and more! I think someone on here has said the 3566 Limited (5" barrel) was produced in a quantity of 150. Would still like to know how many of the SD 356 TSWs were built. Seems to me they are the ones that come up for sale the least often.

Looked at my 356 and it did not have a model number on it, just the serial number of 414. The box had model 3566 and it is a 5" pistol. I paid about $1200 for it with 5 performance center marked mags. Then right before Bill came out with the high capacity mag ban I ordered 5 more mags and 5 spare springs, they are still in their wrappers. This Smith has a large chamber and I have to keep it's brass separate from the 1911 which has a Barsto barrel. Even with the larger chamber it is one of my most accurate hand guns.

As I understand about 300 SD 356TSW's or so were produced. Can someone with more knowledge chime in?!

My Serial # is in the 70's, very low...

Congratulations on your SD 356TSW ! A rare and valued find indeed. I am fortunate to have the 3566 Compact and a 940 "pocket rocket" in .356TSW...Sorry, I don't have the actual production numbers on the SD 356TSW but hopefully someone will.

Thanks to all for well wishes and thoughts on my new to me SD 356TSW.

Alittle more foder: Found out the pistol was fired less than 25 rounds. Has 4 magazines with it. Purchased as part of the deal too; 13x50 boxes of Federal Match FMJ > 8x20 boxes of Federal JHP Defense.

I don't remember where I came up with these numbers but as I recall the SD40 was the only one with more than 200 units at 204, 119 SD356s' and 109 9mms'. The SDs' and the compact 356 were the only 6900 frame sized guns to use a steel frame.
