1911TA or 1911SC??

I know...apples and oranges! I'm going to make a purchase within the next couple weeks and I'm having a tough time deciding which one I want. I'm leaning towards the full size TA, but I'm not a fan of the rail. Also, are there any issues with Wilson 47D mags? I read something about not feeding hollow points some where with the TA.

If you want a full-size, but don't want the rail, get a 108482 - same as the TA, minus the rail and night sights - and add night sights.

My 108482 feeds hollow points (and FMJ) with 100% reliability from the factory mags - haven't tried any others.
 
I like that, but I like the black better. I'll have to see what's out there. I would prefer the straight SW1911, non E series, but don't know if I can find that one around here.

I can't help you decide which pistol, but I can tell you that Wilson 47D's are the mags that all other 1911 mags are judged by.

True story! I read somewhere that they had feeding issues with the Smith 1911's though, especially with HP rounds.

It don't matter which one you get because you will love it. I have a PD and E-series and both have been great guns. I have not had any problems with hollow points or any bullets with the E-series mags. Best of luck and hope it works out.
 
I buy the cheapest mags I can find for my Colt 1911's.

No reason to pay more than $10-12 each.

Throw away those that won't work in all my pistols (5-10%)

The failure rate is the same for pricy mags, in my experience.

Magazines for 1911's are readily available: I buy 5 or 10 a year.

While it's possible, I wouldn't be overly concerned about it. With the amount of 1911's and associated mags being cranked out these days, it's certainly possible for any 1911 to have issues with any mag.

However, if a 1911 won't run with a quality mag like the Wilson 47 or ETM or Tripp Cobra Mag then I'd be looking at the gun as the problem.

Of course that's just my 2 cents! ;)

I have owned quite a few 1911s, and Wilson magazines have been my favorite mags (I prefer the ETMs, though.) While not in my experience, I have read of some people having trouble with Wilson mags in the same model 1911 I had, and they liked/used mags I didn't like.

The best thing you can do is buy one or two magazines and see how they run for you. If you like them and they run well in YOUR pistol, then buy some more. I wouldn't buy a lot of any one mag without trying them in your gun. 1911s can be individuals when it comes to ammo and mags.
 
The main reason I don't like some of the cheaper mags is because of the split followers they have. I much prefer the followers that are skirted, or even polymer (like Wilson ETMs), that won't ding the feed ramp. That's just my personal preference.
 
Not much help here, but I do have both the E Series TA, railed version, and the E Series SC Round Butt. The round butt fits my hand better and is much more comfortable to shoot. It is also easier to CC if that is what you want. The TA, being heavier, is better to shoot as the recoil is tamed a bit more. Both shoot a bit low for me, but that may be because my revolvers are set up for a 6:00 site picture and these 1911's are set up with a hidden site picture. YMMV. If I could have but one of these in the safe and on the range, I think it would be the round butt.

Now if they would only make a stainless version with a round butt. THAT would be perfection!

You and me both! I got to handle both today and I think it's going to be the TA. I almost pulled the trigger, but I'm going to hold off until the fall. They also had the model I've been looking for, the blue SW1911, but it was a beater and they only wanted $500. If I was in the market for a project gun, that would be the one.
