Default 4006 or 4006TSW

Anyone interested in these summit gun broker has them.

As Per them

"Smith & Wesson 4006 TSW great condition and come with 3 magazines. Price: $425.00

Smith & Wesson 4006 These are nice old police duty guns. Minor holster wear if any. Come with 3 factory magazines. Price: $325.00"

Just a heads up if anyone was interested.

Thanks for posting! If the 4006TSW didn't have a rail I'd be all over it. As it is I'm still tempted, but I have a 4006 Cali Parks iteration, so I believe I can hold off. At least, I think I can!

My primary carry gun is a 4006. I wouldn't swap it for anything!

Thanks for the heads up! I just missed out on a 4006 locally last week, they sold it the day before I went in to buy it.I ordered one from summit this morning, I'll post up some pics when I get it in. Now I'm going to need to find some of the straight grips for it.

Nice find, thanks for sharing gdnagle. I used to see more of the 4006TSW's on gunbroker but not as many lately. These ones look pretty nice, and I have yet to find a softer-shooting .40 (of a reliable design).

Well I picked up my 4006 I ordered from summit gun broker today. Definitely some wear on the finish and a couple light scratches but it's everything I would expect from a PD trade in. There was some rust inside the slide where the RSA resides and a couple other small spots that were starting to rust but I got it all removed and you wouldn't ever know it was there now. It was a little dirty inside and out and was dry as a bone. I was happy to find out it has night sights but there's pretty much no life left in them. Anyone know where I could send the slide to have new lamps put in the sights?

Overall I'm pleased with it for the price I paid. It's not as heavy as I was expecting either. I can't wait to get it to the range and run some rounds through it and see how it does.

Please excuse the horrible cell pics

If the sights are Trijicon you can send the slide or just the sights to them. The last time I had a set redone it was $54. They can take a little while, so be prepared for a six to eight week wait. If you're not sure if they are Trijicon's, snap a pic & email them, which is what I did. Good luck!

I really liked my 4006. Built like a tank and reliable. However, I really love my 4006TSW!!

That is by far the coolest 4006TSW I have ever seen Mike-4. Is it an issued duty weapon?

Yes, its an intergal rail. S&W did a very few factory / limited runs for LE agencies who still used 3rd Gen Smiths.

very nice Mike......congratulations on your pending retirement also......I have a feeling more than a few people are going to be on the lookout for these limited run LEO weapons with that integral rail when they hit the market

Well, I should clarify. Its not gifted to me, I have to pay for it which to me is a no brainer. This baby has not had a single malfunction in at least 4500 rounds. I've had her since the factory gave birth to her. Can't stand the thought of her being given to a young boot officer after I've cared for her for the last 7 years

Regards

If it were me, and I planned to do a LOT of shooting, and I had the choice of either a standard 4006 or the 4006TSW ... I'd opt for the TSW version, even if it cost more money.

The TSW's benefited in a few ways. Larger box-type frame/slide rails (helping to contribute to durability, tighter tolerances and better inherent accuracy); Loaded chamber inspection port (handy); and Delayed unlocking (might feel a slight reduction in felt recoil).

Overall better machining and tighter tolerances, including some revisions, such as a longer ejector (for faster ejection & curved angle underneath tip for reduce potential of a stress riser - broken tip); revised extractor (with an added machined bevel under the hook for enhanced feeding of case rims -which can vary among ammo brands and even different lines within the same brand).

The optional integral machined accessory rail was an improvement that I felt was a bit late in arriving in the full-size guns. It was offered as an option to the riveted rail at no additional charge for LE agency customers when ordering the guns. I imagine some LE trade-ins will continue to hit the wholesale market as 3rd gen guns are replaced by other newer, less expensive options in coming years (unless local laws/ordinances require destruction of out-of-service duty weapons, of course).

FWIW, one of the reasons some older 4006's were replaced with TSW's in LE service was that S&W no longer made the older 3rd gen .40 barrels, and the .40 TSW barrels are different enough that they aren't interchangeable with the older 4006 barrels.

The current production (for existing LE agency orders) TSW's are pretty much the best of the bunch of the 3rd gen's ever produced. The current 4006TSW is typically considered to be stronger and more durable than the original 4006 model.

Thanks for the great info Fastbolt, pretty much sums up why I'll take TSW over most other 3rd gens!

Another great post by Fastbolt. I might add that my 4006TSW has 'decock' only levers, not a 'decock / safety' lever.

I suspected that might be the case from the pic of yours, considering it has the spurless hammer. Maybe no trigger play spring, either, maybe?

And for another heads up. Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore has used 11-round factory Smith & Wesson 4006 magazines that were traded in from a police department for $10.95 each plus shipping. In stock as of 9:33pm 9/27/2014
