Do S&W semis have......
Do S&W semis have dash numbers? You don't hear people talking about them like revolvers.

This. I think that's why you sometimes need your serial number when ordering parts. The 3rd generation guns in particular seem to have a lot of running changes in parts and how they fit together. Fastbolt has commented that the later guns and the few that are still made for some agencies could well be called 4th generation guns because of the changes that have been made.
I'd sure love to see a 4th generation 3913.

I'd like to see Smith bring back the 39 and 59 and 69 and 45 and 52 series.
I can't believe they totally dropped them to become another "me too" maker of 1911s and combat Tupperware.
I like 1911s but the market is saturated. Just like the AR market.

The 1911 and AR rifles retain immense popularity. Everyone seems to be selling both these days, even if they don't make a particularly good one. Which doesn't refer to S&W. I never got the whole 1911 thing, but that's just me.
Of course I'm not the financial guy at S&W and I'm sure they made a decision based on projected sales. If it were up to me, I'd offer at least the most popular 3rd generation guns.
Those seem to be the 3913 and 4513TSW guns. Just offer those both in TSW versions and I think they'd sell.

I think production for commercial sale ended in 2006. It took a couple of years for new products out in the pipeline to be sold. After that, S&W only made limited runs for LE agencies.
NYPD, LAPD, CHP, and WVSP come to mind, but I'm not 100% sure on LAPD.
A few overuns seem to have made it gun stores, but only a very few. If you spend some time searching through this sub forum, you'll come across a couple of threads about that.

The RCMP uses the 5946. That's a great choice if somebody wants to 'always get their man'.

Yes, but I heard that they have a special variant that has a flag that comes out of the end of the barrel with "BANG" written on it.
I kid, I kid.

Is that like the French version that drops itself and comes with a white holster that doubles as a flag of surrender?
