Default Crimson Trace for 4516-2

I called Crimson Trace today to inquire what CT fits the 4516. They said they did not have a CT for that gun. I have a Crimson Trace (LG-359) on my S&W 5904, which is listed also by CT for that gun.

Since the 5904 is a large frame, whats the chance that CT LG 359 will also fit the 4516. I have not yet pulled the CT off the 5904 to actually try a fit. But measurements of the CT Grip sure looks like the measurements I get off the 5904

Anyone tried this and found it works

Thanks

I modified a set of the 5900 CT grips to fit my 457. It can be done, but is a lot tougher than putting them on a 9mm. The 45 and some 40 frames are slightly larger than the 9's.

There are a couple of "tabs" that fit against the rear edge of the grip. If you very carefully cut these tabs out and stretch the grips a bit you can make them fit. If you're familiar with the inside of the CT grips, you know what I'm talking about.

Good luck.

Hill_Country, which Crimson Trace did you modify ?

I just did a lot of measuring. My 5904, 9mm calls for Crimson Trace LG-359, which fits the 5904 perfect.

The 5904 frame is .997" wide vs the 4516 frame at .784" The original S&W 5904 grips when help exactly on top of the 4516 grips are .375" longer.

Hopefully you used a different Part Number Crimson Trace than the LG-359 or your 457 is a lot smaller than the 5904 ?

Thanks

The LG359 is the only CT made for a 3d gen. All you have to do is trim it to length to fit a double-stack 9mm. To make it fit a single-stack 9mm you have to trim the length and width (as well as a few other tricks). To make it fit a 40 or 45 frame is an order of magnitude more complicated.

Best advice I can give anyone wanting to modify these grips is buy two sets because you'll screw one up figuring out how to make them fit. I think I screwed up more than two sets. <G>

Ok, thanks for the info. The LG-359 fit my 5904, perfectly, plug n play, no issues.
