Default Q: S&W 1911 slide compatibility?

Hello,
I am a real S&W fan and just ordered my first 1911, the Performance Center SW1911 - long slide. As you know, the PC 1911's have cuts in the slide to reduce weight and mass at the tip of the gun. Great for the range or for competition. But I've read that those same cuts make the gun less than ideal for carry or for backpacking as they permit more dirt to enter the internals of the firearm.
So, to preserve the option of using the gun in those other scenarios, I was wondering if I could purchase a second slide. One that does not have the lightening cuts, perhaps from the Pro E Series. For that to work, the slides/frames/etc would have to be interchangeable and compatible.
Does anyone know if that can be done?
Thanks

Just about anything can be done if you want to spend the money to have it done right.
Probably more than a new gun.

Sounds like a good excuse to buy another gun to me.

The great thing about a 1911 is you can customize it anyway you want. Yes you can put another slide on your PC. I don't think you'll have any problems because any dirt that gets on the barrel through the slide cuts would blow out when the PC is fired. I've never owned a 1911 with the slide cuts so I'm just guessing. Best of luck and be sure to post some pics of your PC when you get it.
