Default S&W 32 ACP: A Good Investment?

A fellow collector friend of mine from out of state has offered me the the chance to buy a S&W 32 ACP with a serial number under 200 in Excellent condition. The price is substantial to me. I could only financially justify it as an investment over the long term. I know only 975 were made and I can buy it a little cheaper than the two that I have found sold at auction over the last few years.

My question is, do you S&W expert collectors consider this gun a good investment long term? Should the gun continue to gain in value over the long term (10-20 years)?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

It depends on two factors, how much you are paying for it relative to its current value (the known variable), and how much collectors will want to pay in the future (not only unknown, but highly unpredictable as well). As you know, it's a rare gun, but S & W semi-auto collectors are relatively few in number (now), so current demand is not as high for this model as for a similarly rare revolver. Good luck in your decision.

I am inclined to go with things that have a more steady, fluid market but that is just me.

About 6 years ago I had a chance to purchase a 35 S&W autoloader (the model before the 32 ACP one you are considering). I decided to pass. That pistols is still worth the same now as it was 6 years ago.

I know the 32 is much more rare, but those two early S&W autos seem to have kept their value, but have not increased all that much.

Thanks for the info and the responses. I will have to make a decision this week-end. IF I end up getting it I will post pics.
