Default Performance Center photo request 3rd Gen's

Anyone willing to share photos of 3rd Gen dehorn, carry bevel, melt jobs. Really interested in PC work but open to all. Have looked (drooled) at some on here from members inboost and his CS45 and BMCM's 4516-1 that are amazing! Seems everyone here likes Karl Sokol, and from what I have seen in photos his work looks top notch. I desire something with a little more metal removed for my personal use.

I dehorned my SWCQB45 for a faster handling gun as it was very sharped cornered. I always wanted to send it back to SW for a slide refinish and re-logo as I always put my money in other projects.

I got out of my SW PCs and all three are gone.

you can see the shiny edges of the black slide CQB and slide stop/decocker lever to compare to my former STS CQB.

if your guns is all stainless and have access to a bead blaster….do it yourself.

This is not a PC but my Colt OACP which I dehorned myself (many years) using small files and sandpaper and then eventually hitting it with a bead blaster.

no sharp edges

Thanks for the info CQB45, hope you retained at least one to go with your handle. Looking at a CS9, so if I rolled the edges on the frame wouldn't it have to be refinished/anodized?
Like the "idea" of doing it myself, just not the added expense if I mess something up.

Hindu,

Although mine isn't a PC5906, it sure handles and shoots like one should. Karl Sokol did this one for me several years ago. He's done my 645 (no longer with me) and is currently doing my 659 (making it into a dedicated rail gun) and my 39-2 (making it more user-friendly by his high-grip mod and 1911-type grip tang treatment).

This 5906 was a former San Diego DA Investigator gun and was made in 1991. Karl did a de-horn, high-grip and grip tang modification. He also did the action that would make any Smith revolver guy/gal jealous. I think the DA breaks at 8.5 lbs and the SA around 4.5 lbs. Doesn't matter: It's S-M-O-O-T-H!

I did the grips thru ROBAR and have a 2 stippled Arched sets ready to ship from them next week. They do a wonderful job with their stippling process. The only thing left for her is to send the slide off to Novak's to have them mount a 1911 front dovetail Tritium sight. I do this for two reasons: 1.) Cause it looks good and life is too short for an ugly gun 2.) If it needs replacing, a .330 X 65 Deg dovetail sight for the 1911 is easy to come by and has many options (Gold Dot, White Dot, Tritium, Fiber Optic, etc.).

Karl Sokol is a good man who knows his way around the 3rd Gen. He has my complete confidence. Two other outlets you should look at are Cylinder and Slide and Novak's. Of the three, Novaks would in all likelihood offer the quickest turn-around-time.

I can't wait to see my 39-2 and 659. When I get them back, I'll send my 915-06 to Karl. I have a 1993-vintage 915 that I mounted a stainless fixed-sight 5906 slide to.

One last thing is that all of my guns (save the 39-2 for safety reasons) will have their operating systems made into de-cock only. Karl is doing the 659 whereas my 5906, 915-06, 6906 have been done by "Vito" at S&W. I buy the used spring-loaded levers from Numrich under the S&W Miscellaneous Section.

Hope this helps!

Reference the grips......factory SW grips were to slippery for me. Both grips were palm swells and one was painted with Brownells Grit Paint and the other one was skateboard tape.

I would use caution on dehorning an alloy frame. I once cleaned up a well used 4013TSW and had it re-anodized. The areas that I softened looked different after it was anodized.

I have a 5906 purchased new when Clinton was in (probably 1994 or so) it may have 600-800 rounds through it. Mostly it's a safe queen. I learned on Dad's Ruger .22 Single Six and shoot revolvers best.

With that said I cannot seem to hit targets very well with it or any other auto. Is there something to know about shooting an auto that is escaping me? Last weekend we bought 250 rds. for it and I told my wife I am taking it to the range for 15 yard bench rest shots and a brass drift for the sights. If that fails I may just sell it. Frustrated is the best word...

It cannot be the gun; I SUCK at shooting it! Advice please.

Thanks for the replies, maybe I misstated my original post so to clarify I am looking for "work" performed by PC not necessarily on PC model.
Gtopcop that is a nice looking 5906 except for the adj sites, for this I refer you back to your 1) bullet on looks, so for me it is just a personal preference. To you and CQB I too find factory grips kind of slippery. I took the straight factory off of a 411 I used to have and sanded them as thin as I could get and then dropped them off at auto shop to get "rino" lined.

The transition from Revolver to Semi-Auto is sometimes rough...

There are so many things you could be doing incorrectly its impossible to diagnose online.
If you have a hard time with ALL auto's, its time to invest in a Shooting Instructor.
Almost all ranges have at least one...

Other method, join the Army & go Infantry, they'll sort you out...
Although, Mechanized Infantry is really the best way to go
