OK, so I am hearing that any steel or aluminum casing ammo in 9mm is not recommended in semi automatic pistols due to possibly harming the extractor, especially on 3rd Gen S&W pistols where the parts are hard to find or expensive.

So, I have been only buying brass casing 9mm. Now, I hear that you should buy only decent quality 9mm brass casing ammo, but brands such as Winchester White Box is not recommended and could cause more harm than what you save per box of 50?

I guess my question is for 9mm brass ammo, other than the grain/tip (I am not a reloader so this is my lingo), etc., what constitutes bad or cheap ammo in 9mm? How would I know, even if the ammo is feeding, am I playing the odds before the "cheap" ruins my semi auto pistol?

If $10-$12 for a box of 50 rounds of 9mm brass represents the cheap "bad" ammo, what should I be paying for a "decent" box of 50 rd 9mm ammo?

Good question! I've been shooting WWB, Remington (UMC) bulk pack, and Blazer Brass for a long time without problems - I'll be interested in hearing if I've been Doing It Wrong. :D

For range ammo, I shoot (brass cased FMJ or JHP) from WWB, American Eagle, Remington UMC, Blazer Brass, Herters, PMC, Speer Lawman, whatever is available and affordable. None are what I would think of as junk ammo. I don't use steel case, more because my range doesn't allow it than anything, but also because most of it is not US manufacture, which can carry warranty issues. (OK, Herters is CIP).

Last box fired was 100 rounds of WWB 115g FMJ. No issues.
