Hi fellow SW owners. I've done an extensive search on other specific 1911 forums but would like to hear from fellow E-series owners regarding upgrades. I can barely find any discussions about the E-series and upgrades, which leads me to believe there may be no reason.

My question is: What upgrades have you done and have you noticed any difference? I'm looking for easy drop in options. Has anyone done a different barrel(WC, Ed Brown, etc)? Would you recommend switching the recoil spring?

I know there is a big debate about 1piece vs 2piece GR. I would switch if there was any gains. But as of right now, diss assembly and assembly is not an issue.

Just as an aside, I ran about 300 rounds through the rental E-Series before I bought mine. Since then, I've done about 400 in mine. Not sure if its in my head but the rental seemed to be a little more accurate. Thats what prompted me to look for upgrades.

I appreciate all the info. I will post in the intro section too to show my grips

Have 2 E's in the safe. A TA and a Scandium Commander. Only thing I have done to them is to change the stocks over to ones with wrap around finger grooves. I find they give me a better hold on the gun which means better accuracy. Altamont was the maker of the stocks.

These are the only 1911 I have and do not know if they need any other improvement or not.

Your E came with all the upgrades it needs. Just shoot it and enjoy it. Also it never happened without PICS..

Sights.
Evaluate what you intend to do with it and look for appropriate sights,.

I'm a fan of 3-dot, and tritum night sights. When I can, that's what I upgrade to.

I haven't seen a need to upgrade the grips on mine, but quite some years ago I had some special needs for a Colt Government Model and put Pachmayr grips on it. they did everything I needed.

More recently, I got a very nice '70 series Colt at a very low price and decided to tart it up with elk horn grips, just for the appearance. I thought it was worth it.

Mine aren't E's but I've had my full size 1911 for many years and the Sc since it came out. I have found no need for anything on either gun as they have both been 100%. I did put some grips on the 5" just for fun which is odd because the 5" came with CT olive grips and I took them off. The Sc came did not come with CT's but I put them on...go figure! The only other thing I have thought about is to go with a single side safety on the Sc...no use for the ambi although it's not in the way. Your E series has everything.

IMHO anything you would do would just be for your own satisfaction or preference...not because the gun needs it. Not a great pic of mine but here it is...

Great. I appreciate everyone's response. The dealer I bought my from, while being biased to SW, emphasized that this was one of the best 1911s you can get in the state(we are limited because vendors don't want to go through the testing). I'm glad to here that upgrades aren't necessarily a must. As far as sights, I like the sights that are on it. Night sights might be a future option but for now I'll keep em.

Will post pics in an intro thread as soon as I can get some. Thanks again.

lhump1961: Where did you get those SW locks(?)? What are you using to prop up your pistols? I notice some people have some sort of prop or something.

I'm not sure what locks you're referring to but the prop rods come up for sale from time to time here and fleabay. There are other non-S&W prop rods available. Enjoy your E-series 1911!:)
