I recently decided to try some of the copper fouling retarding rifle powders and am a huge fan. Both of the targets below were three-shot groups (my aging eyes can't hold a hard focus for as long as they used to) at 100 yards. The first one I tried was IMR4451 in my 6.5-284 Norma.
You can't ask for better accuracy and the chronograph numbers are super.
Today, I tried IMR4166 and Hodgdon's CFE223 in a .223REM.
The velocity variation numbers weren't quite as good but the accuracy sure was! CFE223 wasn't bad by any stretch but it can't be loaded for low velocity like IMR4166 can. While small enough for most people, none of its groups were cutting the same hole.
If the advertised lack of copper fouling holds true, these powders appear to become favorites. If the handgun powder, CFE Pistol, offers the same benefits, it should be a winner as well.
