Welcome to the Forum, CDR. You've come to the right place to ask about the Performance Center SD ("Stocking Dealer") 40 S&W pistol. Here's a thread that has some information about it, though most of the comments relate to its brothers, the SD 356 TSW and SD 9 P models.

Value depends a lot on condition (you say 98 percent) and whether it comes with all the original materials and box. Safe to say, though, this is at least a $1,500 gun; maybe we can nail that down for you better once you provide more info.

There were only 204 of them made, and while they did not sell well back in the 90s when first produced, their rarity plus their outstanding workmanship and shootability have made them very collectible.

Whether it's the right pistol to add to a small collection is gonna be up to you, depending on what you like to shoot and obtain. We'll definitely enable you, if you want to be enabled. :)

I just received a letter from Roy Jinks dated June 11, 2015, on my SD-40. Roy states: The product code for this revolver [scribner error] is 170054. The serial number range for this group of pistols is SDC0001-SDC0214."

I was concerned that my SD-40 had a Novak rear sight, not an adjustable Bomar. Roy says my gun was shipped with a Novak sight on May 31, 1994 and sold to Shooters World Inc., Phoenix AZ.

Hope this info helps. Its a very cool gun you seldom see...or have a chance to purchase.

Good info, Kurt. This nails down the production number better than what's in the SCSW, which gave the same product code number but the series SDC0001 - SDC0207. Thanks for sharing.

performance center sd-40 and 945's

Thanks everyone for the input, gun collecting is new for me. I actually have an opportunity to buy any or all of four Performance Center guns but really should only buy two.... They are a 945-40, a 945-1 45acp 3inch barrel, a 945 45acp 3 3/4 inch barrel black finish and a the SD-40 S&W 4 1/4 barrel. I really like them all, my question is if i was only going to buy two, which ones???

Thanks for your welcome and input.

Right now my take on it would be the SD-40 and the 945-40. I think you will find that these two guns seldom come up for sale compared to the 945-1, 3 inch and 945, 3 3/4 inch. If I am not mistaken, the 945, 3 3/4 would be the most "common" among this group. (The full 4 inch is seen much less). Others may have actual production figures. I think there is a good chart on one of the older threads on 945's. Sorry I don't have it right here.

If you do not choose the 945-40 I would appreciate the lead. Just PM me.

My armchair philosophy is that collecting is a matter of what YOU like and can afford. Enjoy whatever suits you. Collecting is suppose to be fun.

If I can answer any questions, just let me know. I collect early PC guns, mainly revolvers but enjoy the early Semi-Autos as well.

I own all of the guns you mention, and I concur with the above assessment. Those two are particularly nice Performance Center models. If you can get those two for $1500 each, jump on them. And btw, there is no such thing as a 'small collection', especially where PC models are concerned. They only start out small...

CDR, the above two posts are from collectors who really know their stuff. You can take to the bank their advice on your choices, which are all very nice pistols to own, either as collectibles or to shoot. Have fun!

As the owner of an SD-9 the SD series are great guns.........shot mine for several years in USPSA and IDPA.... a 9 that shoots like a .22.

Then the guys around here had to go and tell me how few were made.....being all stainless even after shooting it for years it's still 90-95%.
