Has anyone had experience with either of Robar's finishes, Poly-T2 or Roguard? Thinking of getting a pistol refinished, but the pics on their site are few and fairly small. Also would like to know how they hold up in long term heavy use. I'm looking for a near matte, not quite satin black finish that won't chip or flake around the edges of the mag well, when used vigorously and frequently.

I had some Kahr PM9 magazines Roguarded 7-8 years ago and carried them in a pocket holster since. The edges of the baseplate are now all worn back to silver, as are high spots on the feed lip area and where the mag catch rubs. In contrast the factory PVD coating looks brand new on the rest of the gun. Now to be fair they protrude more, but I'd expect the exposed slide rear to have similar wear and you can't tell any change in that.

So my personal opinion is that Roguard isn't robust enough :( I have a couple more mags I've been meaning to send off to be done in IonBond Diamondblack but haven't gotten a round tuit. I might try that treatment instead as it's PVD also from what I understand - and is factory finish on several Ruger revolvers.

Had my Shield slide "Roguard-ed" a couple years ago in the (can't recall the name of the finish) matte appearing stainless finish. They did a great job and so far it has held up well, no defects or excess wear anywhere. Really does seem to be easier to clean up after range session than it was with the factory black finish. Can't address chipping/flaking around the magwell as I only had the slide and not the frame also finished. A little pricey but I like the appearance and quality of work done. As I recall, I called to ask them a few things before committing to sending slide to them....they were very accomodating and helpful over the phone.

I have been using them since the early 90's. NP3 is a great addition to any firearm and very unique in its properties that is all good for firearms. It makes them corrosion resistant, almost self lubricating, is non reflective, and very slick giving guns almost an action job. Unlike several finishes is it not overly "hard". Some finishes are super hard and will increase wear as the finishes can be harder than what they are working against.
I use some of the colored finishes over the Np3 and have held up well.

I highly recommend them.
