Default Model 639 dilema.

Lent a buddy $400 so his electricity wouldn't be cut off and got a Model 639 and a box of Gold Dots as collateral. First impression, heavy as a battleship, single stack magazine, I bet I wind up getting stuck with it.

Bought a box of 9mm. El Cheapo last night, just got through using it up. I kinda' hope ole buddy has trouble coming up with the bucks. Accurate, good SA trigger DA trigger heavy but smooth. I like the way it sits in my hand and the weight absorbs a lot of recoil. Not my idea of a carry piece but as a shooter I could get to love it. Never thought I'd be wanting one of these. A model 39 would be slick also.

Default Model 639 dilema.

If I were looking for one, that one has the rear adjustable sight that I would be looking for otherwise I wouldn't be interested.

At $400 for the package is a good price!

I've got a 39-2 that feels awesome in the hand.

Not exactly state of the art as a target pistol or as a defensive pistol.

Sort of like how a '69 Chevelle with a small block and a 2-barrel isn't exactly state of the art in the world of motoring.
Still feels good to drive it though, wouldn't you say?

Hi sheepdawg I got a 439 in a three gun deal and I love this gun more than I wanted to.If you can get it or keep it I would advise it you won't regret it. It's a wonderful 9mm.

Tell your friend he has to pay you back in one shot whenever that is. Tell him if he pays you back $50 a week, you'll spend it as you get it, & never have the $400 in one lump sum, so that won't do. So you must get the $400 back in one payment, even if that takes a year. Bet you keep the gun, & that would be a great deal for you. GARY

I guess this just goes to show, there are two types of shooters out there: Those who love pre-plastic S&W autos, and those who will grow to love them.

And it is (or should be) the mission of those of us already here to get to them before they do!

639? Heavy? This does not compute.
I'd love to have an adjustable sight 639.
One I found in a pawn shop was $689.
It was pretty filthy and had a weak mag spring.
I passed on it.

I would just offer your friend a deal. Tell him he does not have to pay you back, give him $25 bucks more and you keep the 639.
If he agrees, ask him if he has extra mags. Deal on those too.
The 639 is one of the nicest looking and well made pistols out there.
I assure you, the weight of the pistol will not concern you for very long.

I have an adj sight 439, and absolutely love it. Only way it could be better is if it were a 639. But then I would miss my 439. So I need BOTH!
