Default Picatinny mount for a M41

I am looking to mount a Burris Fastfire 3 on my M41 with 5 1/2" barrel. I currently have a Weaver rail on the gun, with a BSA red dot sight.
I'm wondering whether the Burris will mount on the Weaver rail, or whether I will need to replace it with a Picatinny rail.
If the latter, I don't want the type that runs several inches past the point where I'd want to mount the optic. I've seen some that are 4 to 5" long.
Any recommendations regarding the Pic. rail?
Thanks.
