I've been working on my gun list, trying to add the perfect balance of variety. What I'm seeking and cannot find is a 9mm or .40 compact S&W, all stainless or carbon steel. As far as I can find, there isn't one. There's the 4566... But I don't want this one in .45. I guess it would be a 6916, 3916, or 569. As far as I know the Smith catalog normally used to find these things doesn't list anything like this, however I KNOW rare guns that shouldn't exist crop up anyway.

Does anyone know definitively that there is no such thing, no matter how rare? Or know for sure of an example that exists?

All stainless steel compact 3rd Gen

Not many choices in all stainless steel 3.5" compacts. A few with 4" bbls. I'm sure the logic was why make a compact heavier by using all stainless rather than going with an alloy frame. Nothing wrong with the alloy frames just as long as you take care of them.

Here a list of all the 3rd Gens to sort thru.

PS: You can add the 4056TSW (pre-rail) to that short list. All stainless steel, 3-1/2" bbl., only made in 1997, and ~1100 made.

.

Pre-rail models: 4013TSW and 4056TSW (w/Hogue grips)

No one can ever tell you that no such thing was ever made.

All we can ever tell you is that no such thing was ever put into production

Traditionally, compact guns are meant to be easily concealed and carried. The idea of using a heavy material for the frame is counter productive

Contrary to the numbering system, the 6916 is an alloy frame (if you can find one).

Never really thought about it but I think the 4056/4056TSW may be the only one that fits your criteria.

I believe Black Talon nailed it...4056TSW. The CS guns have an alloy frame.

The 4056TSW is not common.

The model 4053 is an all stainless variant in .40S&W caliber. Not exactly a "compact" gun by most shooter's standards, although it is a single stack gun with a 3.5" barrel. Weight is approx. 30oz.

I carry a CS45, and keep a 4513TSW by the bed. Great pistols.

I may have misunderstood the OP's question, but I think he was looking for an entirely steel "compact" sized, not a stainless slide on an alloy frame.

Depending on one's idea of compact, I suppose that could include a 4006, 4046, 5906, 5905, 5946, 539, 639, and some others, but I would not normally consider those "compact."

If he did mean steel slide and alloy frame then are too many to list here.

I thought he meant all stainless, frame and upper assembly. Someone mentioned a 4056, but that was only produced in 1997, so it's probably pretty rare.

I wouldn't consider any of the xx06 guns compact. Unless you're Andre The Giant.

Several folks here have mentioned a wish for a 3916, but having a that much weight in a compact is probably defeating the purpose.

A Star M43 in INOX is exactly what you're describing - except for it not being a S&W ;)

Well, I wish he were more specific, because after looking in several places, I don't find any 6916, 3916, or 569. Other than the 5967, a few .45s and a .40 or two, I don't see any compact with a steel frame... so the only real choices are alloy frames.
I'll stand pat with the CS series.

But aren't the 40 frames the same size as the 45?

The 4013 (non-TSW) & it's siblings that use the single stack magazines, are on the large frame like the 10mm & 45ACPs. The double stack 40's are on the medium frame.

Here's the difference in size between a 4013 & 4013TSW barrel.
