Default 59 AD

This happened in 1977 or so, things may be different now with newer guns but then again I carry a 59.
A couple of Cops were chasing a bad guy. A Plainclothes Officer rapidly exited his car and as he did, his M59 went off. The shooting, no one was hit, was being investigated. The Officer claimed that he had not fired his gun, he said his finger was not even on the trigger. I had read that it was possible to fire a 1911 if the hammer was pulled partially back and released. Sure enough, we found a place on the door frame where something had hit hard enough to knock a bit of paint off. There was, maybe, a place on the 59's hammer showing where it hit something. They took that 59 to the range and by easing back the hammer and releasing it just before it cocked, the 59 went off 1 out of 3 times. This could only happen with the decocker in the off position. I think it was a fluke, but it did happen.

Strange stuff happens. I remember reading an AD report a couple years back where a seat-belt snag did pretty much the same thing to a cop. Fortunately it was witnessed by others, both his hands were clearly visible and the holster showed signs of a weapon having discharged in the holster. Given a long enough time pretty much anything that CAN happen WILL happen.

Ha. At first read... I thought about making up something ludicrous just to see if anyone else thinks THAT might ever happen... but that's unproductive.

But it led me to another thought. You want hard to believe, unpredictable? As shared on another forum, the topic was "oddball stoppages."

One of our forum regulars and his buddy were shooting next to each other and the guy on the right had a stovepipe stoppage -- but the offending brass was aluminum Blazer, which he was NOT shooting, but his pal to the left was.

Yeah. Guy shoots, ejected brass flies through the air and lands in to the ejection port of the shooter to his right... in not only the exactly right spot, but at exactly the correct -TIME- while the pistol is mid-cycle and open enough for it to land in there and get pinched when the slide closes.

That is like... unrepeatable.
