Default My modest 3rd generation collection...

As a revolver guy, I was shocked to be bitten by the 3rd gen bug...4566, 4516, 6906...

I've restored these as best I could... the 4516 was in dreadful shape when I got it, but I think that they all turned out ok...

Luckily, I have access to a bead blaster!

You just wrote my story verbatim, I haven't yet found the need to take one to the blast cabinet yet probably because I'm too busy cleaning, shooting or loading for the last one I picked up. But that "last" one doesn't seem to end.

Very nice work. If I owned, or had access to, a bead blast cabinet, no telling how many old, ugly SS S&W pistols I would've bought.

Scotch brite pads work very well for cleaning up worn 3rd gen smiths. A bit of a different finish, but not much. I actually like it better.

If you've got air, you can get a basic blaster at Harbor Freight for about $20 and glass media cheap enough that you can just blast away in the yard without worrying about recovering it. Of course, that way makes a terrible mess and you'll have beads in every exposed pore and crunching in your teeth all day. Hmm, maybe I'll get a sand blast cabinet with my Christmas money. Beast-blasting these stainless guns back into shape really is a satisfying experience.

I've been fortunate to find 5 very nice 3rd Gens that didn't need any serious "fixing up". However, after seeing what you were able to do, some really ratty ones just might be in my future. Congratulations, that's a very nice group you have there.

WOW they look fantastic. I'm going to try my hand at a scothbrite finish in the very near future. I may even invest in a beadblaster.

Very nice collection. Great choice in models.
I have a 5906 that could use one of those "car wash" treatments. Somehow, though, I like the scuffs and wear- but there's already 3 pages of that discussion going on!
