I suggest you remove the safety spring, enabling its function. The hammer pin passing through the safety will sit fine without the spring. The hand grips keep the pin in place.

Mine shoots amazingly. It does however look much different than it did when it left S&W.

I bought a MK IV Competition when they first came out. I shot one box of shells through it and sold it - the steep grip angle was uncomfortable for my arthritic hands and wrists. I much prefer the 1911 grip angle and even changed my Ruger centerfire and rimfire precision rifles over to it using grips from Magpul.

I am left handed. I found that the world is right-handed. So I shoot, shift gears, throw a ball, and use a mouse right handed. I still write left handed since there is no disadvantage in doing that. I love my Victory much more the Buckmark I had.
