I don't own a Shield or an M&P. I also do not carry a backup gun, and I don't carry a revolver. I love revolvers and have a slew of them and always looking for more, but I have no desire to carry one.

Your topic here is in the wrong forum, it should be in the M&P area of the site. And when you create a new subject, give it a title that gives a clue to the discussion. Instead of "curious" which tells us almost nothing, try something such as "Shield or revolver for BUG?" The idea behind this is to attract discussion specific to your thoughts. It makes it far easier for all posters to drop in and add their words when they know what we're talking about.

This area of the forum is used for discussion of 1st, 2nd and 3rd Gen steel & aluminum frame semiauto pistols and the Model 41 (and other rimfire) and the S&W 1911 pistols.

I carry a S&W 325 AirLite 45 ACP revolver and a Model 60 or 642 when clothing dictates. When I travel cross country I like my 1911 with Model 60/642 backup. Nothing wrong with a wheel gun for protection. Whatever you carry just know how to use it.
