The BEST S&W 9mm discreet carry pistol is...

Another vote for the 908 !!

The 908/908S were very nice "budget" models of the 3913. Solid workhorse compact models at more affordable pricing.

If I hadn't been able to buy my 3913TSW for an amazingly good price, I'd been considering a seemingly pristine 908S in a gun store, to complement my first 3913. A cursory check made it appear that it hadn't been fired much, and it displayed no obvious handling/holster wear (I'd have asked to check closer, as an armorer, if I'd become more seriously interested).

The price was just over $600, but since they aren't making anymore of them in the immediate future, the pricing will be whatever the market will bear for the area where the gun is for sale. ;)

I'm a revolver man, but I've lusted for a 3913LS or 3914 for years. Alas, my time being able to afford guns is over in retirement. But I can dream, can't I?

You must not have any "good years" left as per the Bam Formula. :) Or if you do, you must want to devote them to revolver-related activities. ;)

But I still say you can do more than just dream. :) Let me inspire you. :D I was laid off permanently in late-2006 and have been officially retired from virtually all paycheck-generating endeavors since early-2009. If it weren't for the good wife helping to pull the cart at this point, I'd be bankrupt and homeless.

But even dirt poor moi can afford a 3rd Gen buy here and there. :D

Don't get hung-up on the 3913LS or NL models. Trust me and go for plain vanilla. :D Go for a plain Jane 3913 or possibly a 908S. Even a 908 in black is not a bad gun and can often be found at incredibly low prices. :)

If I can somehow manage to afford the occasional 3rd Gen in retirement, anyone can! :D

The majority of 3rd Gen pistols I've bought in the last 8 months have been value line guns, most in stainless. There are a couple good reasons for that. First and foremost, the ones I've been able to buy are all practically brand new in box with the works. That's the advantage of buying 3rd Gens that are only 10 or so years old instead of 20 or so years old. :D

Secondly, those relatively young value line guns are mostly importable for me here behind enemy lines as almost all of them appear on our infamous MA EOPS list. :D None of the earlier 3rd Gens are on the list, which only started sometime post-1998. :o

Some don't like the "less-refined" look of the value line pistols but I love the look. I also love the fact that I don't have to put up with an ambi safety/decocker. :) The plastic rear sight doesn't bother me but it can be changed. Same with the plastic guide rod if you are so inclined. :)

Yes, some are crazy priced because they are the youngest and last/most recent production "as-new-in-box" 3rd Gens... practically brand new guns in many cases. I paid more for my pristine perfect "as-new-in-box" 908S than for any of my four 3913's. But I still think it was worth it to put my hands on an essentially brand new gun! :D

I hate to be the odd man out, but....

I love my 3913TSW, but I carry my Kahr PM9 most of the time any more.

Am actually getting to like the Kahr trigger, and can run it moderately well.

Got my Shield back from Bowie a few weeks ago, and will give that a whirl.

In any event, no bad choices here.

S/F,

RAS
