Default Laser etching on slide

Here is the senerio: I just bought a S&W 1076, and the previous owner had quite a few scuffs on the gun as well as some holster wear. So, since I am so anal retentive I have decided to have the gun refinished. The laser etching will probably be removed. The rest of the lettering and logo are stamped so they will be fine. Would it bug anybody else that the warning is no longer on the slide? The warning kind of bugs me anyway. What say yea?

I thought the warning in this case indicated something unique or special about the gun (although I can't remember what).

Regardless, the refinishing alone will reduce collector value (if any)... so what the heck? If you are going to refinish it anyway, you might as well make it the way you want it.

It is not a FBI gun so what the heck. The value is still up there due to the fact that it is a 1076. I guess when I'm dead it won't matter anyway. I plan on keeping this until then.

Not sure what your warning says - but try a DIY before going full-on refinish....

If you're going for the refinish might as well have Smith do it. Still factory that way, kinda, sorta.

Not sure who is doing the work for you but if they are careful with matching the original finish with the proper media and pressure, then that area hardly needs to be blasted and may result in no change to the lettering. It just needs to be blended in with the surrounding surface finish. There are threads here on the boards about nozzle pressure and media blends that members use to best duplicate the factory finished.
