I recently picked up a used Model 41 that has surface rust on the barrel and some on the frame and is missing its stocks. After I got it home, I was cleaning off some of the rust on the barrel and saw the word Short. Checked the magazine and saw it was a 5 round .22 Short magazine. I haven't been able to find any magazines for sale to get an idea on value. Does anyone have some advice for me on that?

As for the barrel, there is surface rust on the sides, top, the rear sight, barrel weight and compensator are missing. The bore looks good. Would something like this have any value?

Thanks!!!

The mags have sold for north of $200 in very good condition.
Can you post pictures of the whole lot, gun and all as the model 41 .22 short are somewhat rare and collectable.

Standard price on eBay lately has been in the $250 range. If the outside magazine dimensions of the mags are the same, I'd buy a standard 41 mag and see if I couldn't modify it to work.

Arbanel Welcome to the Forum from Canada as well. What you bought is a very rare issue of the M41 and is also very collectable as well. What is the serial no. range of this gun please as Aussie will be able to tell you a lot more about it. As far as the missing parts go I will e-mail you in private as to whom to contact for them.

I took another look at it. It is marked 41-1. The serial number range is 277xx. I will see if I can take some photos this weekend. Though, the pics may bring a tear. It's too bad that it wasn't stored properly.

I suggest looking at Gunbroker or a place like that for a price on that gun. You just might be pleasantly surprised on its real value in to-days dollars. I am sure you will make a profit on this gun so its probably worth it to you to really clean it up or restore it back to original condition if you can.

I saw one of these at my first live auction. I had two 41s, so didn't pay much attention. It sold for $750. It wasn't until after the auction that I realized it was worth 3 times that. It was clean, in the box, etc. It still keeps me up some nights...

This is a genuine Model 41-1 I have a small collection of them with 6 being in the 277xx range. I would like to see the pictures if you can post some.

You gun is what it is. I have some real junky S&W in my collection, most of them considered vary rare guns so the condition is acceptable. For me any condition is sometimes better than none, trade up as we go. The 41-1 is rare and sought after and for me falls into that basket.

Advice on the best way to clean it up no doubt will be forthcoming after we see the condition in pictures.

Hi,
Just found the thread and wondering did you ever post photos or what happened in the end to the pistol?
Regards,
Gordon

Arbanel where are you as we would love to see pics of this gun so we can advise you further on it.

The O.P. hasn't been back to the Forum since his last post over 2 years ago. You may have to PM him, if he's still able to be contacted.

Seeing rust spots appearing on my barrel and frame. Living in Ireland so have to shoot in the rain sometimes.
Any ideas how to clean up the rust spots without damaging the finish of the pistol?
Serial is A7966xx so a rough date would be appreciated. Guessing 72 - 84 from what I have seen on this fantastic forum.
Glad I found it
I would put up a pic but when I tried it showed my entire album so need to figure that out.

AJ has it right with the Big45 Frontier pad and Kroil. Used many times on many guns. Much better than steel wool!
