4006 rear adjustable site, how do you tighten the base?
Hi all.
I just picked yo a nice clean trade in 4006 pistol, the only issue I have found is the rear adjustable site unit moves a bit left to right.
Do you know jow to get to the mounting screws?

Lock screw for the base is under the assembly. Use caution, the plungers holding the sight assembly in the base are all spring loaded.
See photo for schematic.

You will need 3 hands, a toothpick and a 3/32 allen wrench... I am going to "assume" that you understand the parts & terminology.
The sight body is held into the sight base by 4 plungers and 3 springs. First thing you do is turn the sight elevation screw all the way down (to the right) until it passes by the plunger. This will relieve the spring pressure on both of the center sight elevation plungers. Next use the toothpick to push in one of the sight body plungers while lightly pulling back on the sight body. Then move over and push in the plunger on the other side of the sight body being careful not to pull the sight body out of the base. Put your fingers over the front of the sight body and lift it out of the base. Hopefully your fingers will capture the plungers and springs as the sight body moves out of the base and are not launched into outer space, never to be seen again...
With the sight body removed, you will see a small screw that passes thru the sight base into the slide. It is a 3/32 allen head screw, tighten it and then re-assemble the sight body into the base.

Looks like quite the mousetrap. I find that if I need to work of something like this, I will put it in a large heavy freezer bag, this way if they do try and launch, they launch inside a bag.
Saved my butt working on cars many times.

Okay, I took my pistol to work (I wanted to show it to my boss anyway, and he liked it) anyway after work I followed Sparky's advice, tho I used a punch to push in the pins.
The screw was lose, I removed it, slid out the site assembly and washed everything with brake clean. With all the oil and dirt off, I use red locktite on the bottom of the base and on the threads and reinstalled it.
I resisted the urge to remove the magazine disconnect and left it in place.
Thank you armorer951,SparkyAZ, you made it very easy and clear.

NASA estimates there is more than 170 million objects smaller than 1 cm (0.4 in) orbiting the earth as space junk... I think a percentage of that is lost S&W springs and plungers....
