4003TSW with no rail holes but has a rail frame?
Saw this advertised on my local Armslist. It is an Atlanta Police used gun, but was curious that it did not have any rail holes, as if the rail were removed.
I am not aware of any Police Departments being able to order this gun without a rail and subsequent holes, yet the frame being a rail model.
Any insight?

Just spitballin' here, spistols, and I hope others more familiar with these will chime in:
Given the size of the force in Atlanta, I'm guessing S&W would make a run of whatever the department wanted, and leaving the rail off might have had a reason. Perhaps the holsters the department already had were for a non-rail model S&W full size, and they didn't want to replace 'em?
Non-rail TSWs in any model are always nice to see. Thanks for the pics!

While rarely seen in the wild these days, I do believe that the 4003TSW (and other late period TSW pistols) could be ordered without the ugly black mustache rail.
I'd love to find one that way in top shape without any agency markings.

LOL!!!!!!! Someday you'll have to tell us all the story behind the story of how you came to own the world's largest supply of 11-round 4000-series magazines.
Too bad they are all likely post-bans or I'd take some off your hands!

yeah Smith and Wesson makes anything to any departments specific wants or desires. I own an early non rail TSW they are rare but out there looks like they took a railed 3rd gen frame and just did not rivet a rail to it.
