Default 1911 e series for first pistol

Hey everyone! I've been looking at the e series 1911s and think they are absolutely gorgeous pieces, but I haven't found anyone who personally has one or has shot one. I have shot other 1911s from different manufacturers (Sig & Colt) and really like them a lot! At this point I would only to be able to afford the standard 5", not to say I wouldn't add more to my collection later... Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Can't really be of much help all but 2 of my 1911's are Colts .

E series does get good reviews I don't think you can really go wrong with either.

I have two E-Series 1911s - a stainless steel 5" and a two-tone Sc. Both come well-equipped and function flawlessly.

Here's another question for you guys: in regards to 1911s in general, is there a length you prefer for carry? I've carried a friend's commander sized sig and it was great, but I don't know if the extra length from the government model would make that much more of a difference.

I have ten 1911's ..... and have bought some, and sold some
of the ten remaining, there are 3 Sigs, 3 Colts, 2 Dan Wessons, a Ruger, and a S&W 'E-Series'

MY E-Series is their basic 5 inch, all s.s. ...a good gun especially for the just under $1,000 price.

I especially like the titanium firing pin used as a drop safety. This forces a stronger than John Browning design 23# main spring {some call it the 'hammer spring'} ... I like the ti. firing pin since it can be changed out for a steel firing pin, along with a main spring change to a 20# spring {which is or was the std. in Sig 1911's} ..... in my opinion, the 20# spring, and steel pin afford the opportunity to improve the trigger feel ..... however, it gives up some of the lock time reduction the ti. pin had, especially using its required heavy main spring.

prior S&W 1911's had the horrible mess of a version of the Swartz type drop safety ....which kept me away from them. A buddy, needing $$$ for a new pistol sold me his E-Series for $900, and I consider that a good deal. That e-Series sits next to my computer to welcome uninvited and unwanted guests. For a $ 1,000 > $ 1,200 1911, it's a good deal ....andf comes with S&W's forever warranty, although I have no experience with making use of that.

For a couple of hundred $$$ more, I'd go with a basic Dan Wesson....but that is my personal pref., I will keep my S&W E-Series, as I like it also

Lastly, I am on soc. sec. now {just turned 70, and buying guns, sometimes one per month is a memory....but, if needs be, I can trade or sell a gun to finance a new one.

buy and enjoy the E-Series !
