Smith and Wesson 410S

I am going to pick at you guys wealth of knowledge for a bit. A very close friend of mine had bought a model 410S chambered in .40 S&W. He had bought this gun new several years back and had only shot 10 rounds through it. I shot it one weekend and it had a very good feel to it. He told me he would sale it if I wanted.

My wife actually bought it for Christmas for me. I've put around 300 rounds through it and love it. I just love the feel, other than a heavy double action trigger pull. I ordered a Wolff main spring pack that came with a 16lb, 17lb & 18lb spring. I installed the 16lb and it feels much better. I'm sure it will loosen up a bit more as I shoot it.

If any of you guys have any information about this pistol I would love to hear from you. There doesn't seem to be many places that carry aftermarket accessories for this pistol. I did buy a Blackhawk holster for it through Midway USA.

Are these guns pretty reliable compared to other models? Any tips or information would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome aboard Donald.

I think you made a fine choice.

The Model 410S is the bright stainless steel/alloy version of the Model 410 and is the "Value Line" equivalent of the premium Models 4003 (Made 1991-1993) and 4003TSW (made 2000-2003). The 410S was manufactured from 2003 to 2007.

I have one myself with the factory-offered Crimson Trace laser just like this one:

I also have a black "as-new" Model 410 without a laser which was a super deal that I couldn't pass up after paying an awful lot of $$$ for my 410S w/laser.

Aside from the few plastic parts on each, I have zero complaints.

Being close to the last of the 3rd Gens made before they were discontinued (excluding occasional new releases, these are the "newest" of the breed)... and also legal to buy & transfer through dealers here in moonbat Massachusetts (they are on our "list")... the "Value Line" guns hold a unique attraction for finicky me. Excluding a couple CS models, eight of my last eleven 3rd Gen acquisitions have been "Value Line" guns.

One attraction for me is that "pre-ban" 11-round magazines are plentiful and generally pretty darn cheap. And if you don't live in a moonbat state, post-ban 11-round magazines are even cheaper.

This seems to be the result of lots & lots of recent cop trade-ins of 4003/4006 series guns and magazines.

I'm also an alloy frame kind of guy. Steel is great but give me an alloy-framed gun and nine times out of ten I'll be much happier.

Thanks for the information. I have read somewhere and it possibly could have been here on this forum about using a steel guide from a 4006 in place of the plastic one that came standard on this particular model. Have you or anyone else ever done this and what would be the biggest advantage or disadvantage?

They both are 4" bbls. so it should work.

Since the 4006 is stainless the guide rod is also. (S&W #106760000)

The metal guide rod will be more durable than the plastic guide rod.

I've done the conversion. Performance, no difference. Durability? Maybe, the 410 was a value line and a fine pistol. Never noticed any change but I like to add value to the "value line."

I really appreciate the information on the guide rod. I think I will go ahead and order one. If nothing else just from a durability standpoint. So far I have enjoyed shooting this pistol and the accuracy is better than what I am capable of to be honest.

I've shot everything from Tul ammo to Winchester without any problems. Do you find that 165 gr is any better for accuracy than 180 gr? As of right now, I can't tell any difference. But that's just my opinion.
